My husband and I spent a week in California..Driving to Carmel-by-sea was a last minute decision. We heard the beach there was spectacular, which it was! googled nearby hotels on the phone...called dolphin inn they had three hotel rooms left at the walk-in rate all under $125/night. Room was a little outdated but very clean. Charming little town, awesome beach.... More

The location of this motel was excellent. The motel itself is older and is showing wear. The rooms are dated and the walls extremely thin. I was woken up after midnight when guests went to their room above us. They have done a nice job with keeping the rooms clean and triple sheets on the bed, although it is under... More

My husband and I have been coming to Carmel by the Sea for eleven years. We had always stayed at The Village Inn, but this year they doubled their prices - even for guests that had been staying with them for 20 years! We have friends that have been staying at the Dolphin Inn for years. They have always highly... More

We stayed at The Dophin Inn for our first couple of nights of our tour of California in August 2010 after driving straight from San Fransisco airport. The hotel has an old fashioned quaint charm about it, which perfectly matches Carmel itself - a town I heard described as sleepy cosmopolitan - and it is clean, comfortable, convenient and pleasant.... I know Carmel is expensive but for $200+ I was expecting something with a bit more charm. Especially given the good TA reviews. I found this place pretty basic and uninspired. The lady at the front desk was pleasant and the coffee was hot. That's about all the positive energy I can come up with. It is listed on TA... More

Staying at the Dolphin is like stepping back in time (in a good way). The suites are very spacious with an eating area, utility kitchen, fireplace, large walk-in closet and generous sized bedroom. The decor is old-fashioned and wouldn't look out of place from the fifties but it adds to the charm if you're in the mood for that. It... More

We stayed at the Dolphin 24-25th July 2010. We debated a lot about whether to stay in Monterey or Carmel and we were so happy we chose Carmel. It is smaller, has so much character and the beach is lovely. The room... the room is not modern like you find in cities however it was clean, comfortable and has everything... More

One of the few pet-free places in Carmel. The staff was extremely friendly and very knowledgeable about local restaurants & attractions (esp. Diana). The place is very clean and the beds were so comfortable. The pool was great too. I was there 4 nights and I highly recommend the place.

the hotel is very outdated; furnishings are too floral, rooms are small, and the whole thing has a vibe similar to a second-rate motel. not worth the $115 for a two double bed room. some friends, who had booked months in advance for the same room as mine, had to pay over $50 more. the television, despite at least having... I've been staying at the Dolphin Inn, as well as other Inns by the Sea, for over 20 years now and the main reason for returning year after year is their clean facilities and friendly staff. Each June, I bring a group of LA City Firefighters to the area for some well deserved relaxation and a few rounds of friendly... More
