Stayed here during an impromptu visit to Carmel. This place is small, but if you get one of the rooms on the second floor with a view, it can be downright magnificent. Entire room had high end furnishings and the fireplace in suite is lovely. Our room overlooked the firepit below and had a view of the water in the... More

There are several important points to remember about Carmel: 1. There are no large brands here at all, so you are left with small inns and B+Bs. In my experience, independent small hotels never measure up to a luxury name brand like Ritz Carlton and the like. So don't expect anything comparable to a large luxury name brand experience here,... By far the best of several inns we've enjoyed in Carmel, Tradewinds is a serene hideaway tucked in a quiet corner. We loved the surprising tropical garden, tasteful Asian decor, "green" amenities (soap and lotion dispensers, motion-detector light switches, etc. Even the in-room coffee is good. Our room has a view to remember, looking out over the treetops to Point... More

This is the second time in a year I have stayed at the Tradewinds, Carmel. This time we brought our two kids (11&14.) We stayed two nights and had great accommodations, though we couldn't get out rooms very close together. There was no problem with parking, despite driving huge SUV. The rooms are clean and extremely comfortable and the breakfast buffet... More

I rarely stay at privately owned hotels and when we first drove to it we thought we were in the wrong place as it's located on a residential street and at first I wondered what I'd booked. However as soon as we walked into the small reception area we were greeted by lovely friendly people who were more than helpful... More

I love the title "hidden away treasure!" We always say that we are a hidden gem on a quiet residential street in downtown Carmel. Thank you for commenting on the "immaculate" rooms and we will thank our wonderful housekeeping staff. Rosy, our head housekeeper, has been a part of Tradewinds since 1993! Domitila, since 2007, Elizabeth since 2004...We are blessed... More

Trade winds hotel was one of the most beautiful and tranquil hotels we have ever stayed in in California The room was pristine peaceful and calm and the surroundings of the hotel were beautiful with a zen garden. It pretty much summed up Carmel for us. Beautiful town with the most amazing beach. Fantastic shops and restaurants. We loved it... More

The location of the Tradewinds is good - you're a bit away from downtown (uphill) but it's a quiet area. You can walk to the beach (downhill) and to all the shops and restaurants. There is free parking but as I was told there is not enough spaces for all the rooms. I was told if I came back at... More

We booked last minute for Pro Am. Comfortable room, bedding and decor. Has an Asian flair which in my opinion doesn't go with Carmel but overall the furnishings were in good taste. I would suggest a request for top floor room; building is an updated motel type structure. We had our 2 boys 9 and 12 with us and someone... More

Thank you for taking the time to write such a thorough review. Regarding the zen/Asian decor...Actually the Monterey Peninsula and Carmel have a long history of immigrants from China and Japan. Point Lobos, which is a state park visible from many of our rooms (the view that inspired Robert Louis Stevenson to write Treasure Island), was inhabited by Japanese fishermen... More

Fantastic stay at this place. It was very stylish and comfortable. The staff couldn't have been friendlier and more helpful. They even helped source bolt cutters for a padlock on my suitcase that wouldn't open! Great location just a few blocks from the beach and the centre of Carmel. I'd have stayed longer if I could.
