We were travelling down the PCH and decided to stop in Carmel for a night, we quickly found that all hotels in the area were pricey! We chose Carmel Lodge, lovely little place in a great location, a little dated but very clean. Reception staff were wonderful and we had a continental breakfast brought to the room in the morning.... This is an older hotel. We had a room upstairs with a little balcony. The room was small, but had everything we needed. The bathroom was small with a very small shower stall, however, clean and updated fixtures. The TV was in the cabinet, it was not a flat screen TV. The shelf it was sitting on, was a little... More

The staff are the best thing about Carmel Lodge, they are friendly and helpful, but unfortunately that can"t hide the fact that the rooms, and particularly the bathrooms, are in need of updating. My room was a reasonable size with a balcony, but the carpets and furnishings were starting to look a bit shabby and the bathroom had definitely seen... More

There are lots of old, charming/quaint properties in Carmel, but this isn't one of them. First the good things: very comfortable bed, amazing staff, very fast free Wifi and fantastic location. The bathroom was a joke. Tiny space, tiny sink, tiny toilet even, and the shower was....tiny with the shower head below chin height for me at 6'. They need... More

Thanks, Dan, for taking time to write a review of Carmel Lodge. The new owners have been working hard for the past year to make improvements that guests will appreciate -- new carpet in all the rooms, new interior and exterior paint, some new furniture -- and behind-the-scenes improvments to things like roofing, etc. The pool has been closed for... This is a cozy hotel that offers all you can need. It was clean and comfortable and we slept well. The bathroom was a little small but Ok. The location was very good but you do need a car in carmel. I will be back.

This hotel needs to be leveled and start over. The bedspread etc are worn out and the bathroom has been remodeled but looks honky. The bed creaks and mattress sags. Can't believe it has a AAA rating. I would never recommend it. We are staying our of the hotel , only to sleep there. The polis dirty and old.

Our room was clean, modern, quiet and comfortable. The receptionist was helpful, and we were situated within easy walking distance of shops, restaurants and the beach. Very nice to have parking on the premises, as street parking would be difficult. A bit pricey, but after all, you're in Carmel.

Disappointed at the size of the room, although it had the usual room furniture it lacked coffee/tea making facilities. Bathroom was very clean but slightly worn. The management was very friendly on arrival but when we reported a bedside light and fan (because there was no A/C) were not working, nothing was done. What passed for breakfast was also not... More

I probably would have given 3-1/2 stars if I could. We stayed in room 20 on the second floor. It was large with a fireplace, nicely decorated, and had a pretty stained glass window. The first night we used the Dura-flame log that was provided, and it was lovely to have a fire. In the morning, they brought us coffee... More

It's carmel people. I live in SF and understand the swankiness people are expecting once they arrive at carmel by the sea. You have to get over it, Carmel has teeny tiny little boutique-y type hotels that are all small and well Carmel'ish. You aren't going to find the mandarin oriental here, or the mar riot marquis What you will... More

Thanks, SanFrancisoC -- you get us!!! Love that phrase -- Carmel-ish -- I'm going to steal that. You're absolutely right -- Carmel is stuck in time. On purpose. No elevators. No air conditioning. No problem! We love that you enjoyed your stay so much and value the same things we do -- a clean room, centrally located, and nice people.... More
