I think the guest cottages were built in the '30's, '40's(?). There's even an old phone booth still on the property. But they have been updated and maintained. The courtyard is beautiful with an old tree and flowers, fountain flowing. The main office is the original old house that belonged to an author who was one of the early Carmel... More

We (myself, husband and golden retriever Chester) just got back from a one night stay at Vagabond House Inn. It was my birthday and we just wanted a short mid-week getaway. We stayed in room #3 which had a fireplace and small kitchen. This room also had a king bed along with a twin bed against a window. I loved... More

We happened across the Vagabond by accident during the Jan 08 storms and wow, were we happy we did. This little place was a haven of peace and relaxation and our initial one night stay turned into a four day break! All thoughts of the storms outside were completely forgotten in front of the massive gas fire in our cosy... More

This was a lovely place for a several day stay in Carmel. I loved the option to have breakfast in the courtyard and the staff was very friendly and helpful. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place to anyone.

I had hoped to stay at Vagabond House Inn on a previous visit to Monterey Peninsula but it didn't work out that time. This time I booked for two nights in one of the smaller rooms. I didn't need a kitchen as I was looking forward to visiting several restaurants in the area. The evening clerk was more than helpful... More

This was one of my first reviews on Trip Advisor. That was three years ago. We have come back each year since and we have enjoyed our stay each time. It has become our Thanksgiving retreat in Carmel. The inn is built around a courtyard. In the center of the courtyard is a huge tree and a fountain. The courtyard... More

We arrived in Carmel unable to find any accommodation for more than 1 night and the stunningly efficient Innkeepers of Carmel Association (via one of the other marvellous inns) found that Deborah might have something for us. She did, we stayed in the Garrett at an off-site new accommodation owned by the Vagabond Inn perfectly positioned at the head of... More

My husband and I picked this hotel sight unseen except for a few Internet pictures. We had no idea where to stay but we lucked upon this charming little inn. It was the perfect choice! The staff was very friendly, the room was a nice size and it was convenient to all of the local shopping and restaurants. Everything was... More

We had had a bad experience with a hotel in Big Sur and we went looking for somewhere to stay at about 8pm. We chanced upon this charming B & B and were shown a good deal of courtesy help and a refuge for the night. Thank you to the owner.

We were thoroughly satisfied with our stay. A very nice location for walking to various points within the village area of Carmel. The breakfast tray brought to our room both mornings surpassed our expectations based on some previous reviews, and the staff was gracious and helpful.
