Overall, we really enjoyed our experience at Fujioto. The staff goes out of the way to make your stay comfortable and they speak English very well. They are all extremely friendly and helpful. We were given the only private room in the ryokan (all other rooms are next to one another separated by paper walls). Ours had its own set... More

Our family thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Ryokan Fujioto! Everything about our stay far exceeded our expectations. We were enchanted by the kindness, friendliness, graciousness, and humor of Franco and his wife who were so welcoming. All of the staff were exceptionally kind as well. We have eaten lots of wonderful Japanese food in our lifetime, but our kaiseki meal... More

We were so lucky to stay at this ryokan. Not only was it charming with great food - but we happened to be in town for a local festival. I can't recommend Fujioto highly enough. The owner and some of the staff speak excellent English. Sleeping is on futons on the floor and the bathroom is shared (traditional Ryokan). The... More

No doubt the place is magic. Tsumago is such a small and well preserved town, empty of turists during the afternoon. The warm welcome from Mr.Franco and the are, mixed with the nice menu for dinner made from local ingredients will make your experience unique. Although the treatment was excellent, rooms are small and no bathroom inside. This is why... More

We recently stayed for two nights whilst exploring the local area. Upon arrival we were met with a very warm welcome and a detailed explanation of the facilities available. The dinner on both nights was very special. Each part of the meal was explained which was very handy considering the many courses and separate dishes!. Breakfast again was a site... More

We did the hike from Magome to Tsumago and stayed at this beautiful Ryokan. Our stay was wonderful. The staff could not have been more helpful and we loved our room. You do use a shared bathroom but it is very clean and we never encountered others while we used the facilities. The highlight of our stay was the food.... More

An excellent place to stay, beautiful and very well kept. We were served an amazing 8 course Japanese taster menu, with everything explained by the English speaking staff. Really, the height of hospitality. Staff were very helpful with onward journey planning too.

We stayed two nights, walking to magome and back - a lovely day not too hot, sun all day. The room was large, lovely view of Japanese garden front and back. The staff are friendly and attend to anything you wish quickly and with humour. Other reviews rave about the food - we were not disappointed as can be with... More

We loved our big room with windows all around, enjoyed sitting on the balcony, dinner, breakfast, ... No private bathroom at all (not even a sink in the room) but for one night I don't mind too much. Loved it.

After hiking from Magome in surprising heat, we arrived at beautiful Tsumago and the ryokan Fujioto. The hosts were welcoming and helpful and spoken excellent English. The room had amazing views of their beautiful gardens. The highlight was the outstanding meals, both dinner and breakfast which were prepared lovingly using local ingredients and beautifully presented. Memorable stay.
