Stayed here one night after completing the nakasendo hike from Magome. Typical ryokan experience with futon sleeping and communal bath facilities. The owner and staff are very friendly and take time to carefully explain all the food and customs during excellent kaiseki dinner. At start of dinner, a photo is taken off your table with the beautiful initial spread. This... More

When walking the Nakasendo you have a couple of villages to choose from to spend the night. Tsumago is one of the villages where a historic feeling can be found as there are no electricity poles around to spoil the scenic values. Also, walking from Magome to Tsumago is more easy and better suited for a leisurely lazy stroll. Tsumago... More

This was definitely the highlight of our Japan trip. The setting is lovely, the owner and staff are really helpful. The food was delicious and adventurous! Yes the futon is a bit thin but what an experience! Superbly authentic!

Our stay in Fujioto ryokan was one of the best experiences we had on our trip through Japan. First the warm welcome of the girl (sorry we forgot your name) at the reception. We were shown our room and shown the communal bathing area and the shared toilet. It was the first time we stayed in a place where we... More

First of all, I can't believe there are even negative reviews on this place. My boyfriend and I stayed here for the night, after the long hike from Magome to Tsumago. We were warmly greeted by the owner, then a brief tour and rules of the ryokan were explained. He said he reserved us the best room (which another TA... More

We didn't know what to expect when we booked a trip to the Kiso Valley. Not a big fan of touristy crowds, or kitch faux-historical sites. But it was definitely worth the trip. This Ryokan is absolutely charming, and really beautiful. We had a smaller room, which was fine as we only had a backpack each. Once we arrived, we... More

We arrived at 10 am when normal check in was 3 pm but the owner welcomed us warmly and took care of our bags so that we could explore the town. On checking in the owner took us to our room located on the  second floor and we were delighted to have the double room with full room screen doors... More

We stayed here for a night on October 16th. We were warmly greeted and our luggage was taken to our room. The staff was extremely welcoming and spoke English. The ryokan was nice and large and the rooms were clean. The outside and garden were very nice. We thought the showers would be communal, but were pleasantly surprised that we... More

An amazing, tranquil ryokan with its own Japanese gardens in a restored traditional Japanese village nestling at the bottom of a mountainous valley. It's a slice of traditional Japan, and you'll love it. The room was large, clean, and well-appointed, with a very comfortable traditional Japanese bed on the floor. We slept incredibly well. The food, which is included in... More

We only managed to book the smallest room in the ryokan but it has an amazing view. As we had been hiking from Magome, the traditional Japanese bath was a good welcome and helped us relax after a long day. Everyone in the ryokan is very friendly and helpful. Food here was very delicious and with each dish individually introduced.... More
