My stay at this hotel was arranged by my in-country trekking guide. I thought it had unique character and charm. Much more up to date than my other stays in Asia (certainly exceeded my expectations). Keep in mind I do not personally book expensive hotels, I prefer a comfortable, safe place to sleep vs. luxury, 5-star locations. Should I returm... more

When travelling to Bhutan unless paying for the upmarket hotels the tourist does not appear to have much personal choice. We (a party of four) we placed in this hotel. We were met by our guide and driver at the airport and taken to the hotel where we were given a garden room. The entrance hall to our semi-detached garden... more

Views from both were great and secluded. Both rooms were carpeted (but thin dark crappy carpet). Walls are all wood, bathroom is clean but not anything great.... more

Hotel Olathang was built in 1974 and looks rather tired! There are two kinds of rooms, smaller rooms in the main building. These are rather dark and gloomy and possibly noisy depending on how many people are staying. Or a two bedroom cottage in the grounds. The rooms are slightly larger and some have nice views of the valley below.... more

When you travel to Bhutan, you need a tour guide who will arrange for all your needs (hotel, meals, van with driver, and a tour guide) This is how the country operates (low volume and hi quality) and it works. Its all a set price of $200/day per person. So the key is to get a good tour guide who... more
