This is one of the most beautiful places I visited in Costa Rica. The staff is very friendly and the food is great. If you are looking for a place to enjoy nature this is the place because it has a lot to offer.

The winding gravel road leading upwards from the Pan-American Highway to the Rincón de la Vieja National Park is dusty and bumpy but as compensation offers many idyllic views such as the many grazing horses and ponies (Kelly U. was in heaven) in the pastures surrounding the entrance gate of the Rincón de la Vieja Lodge; a hotel consisting of... Such beautiful surroundings! Unfortunately the hotel itself can really improve! Beds are squeaking and pretty uncomfortable, power in the bathroom is inconsistent and at times non existent (the toilet wouldn't flush and it then flushed by itself after half an hour!!), the breakfast food is pretty greasy and bland.... Such a pity because it has the potential of being a... More

Scruffy rooms, indifferent service and abysmal food. Take it or leave it approach to a buffet that offered some of the worst food I'd seen anywhere in Costa Rica. Our buffet consisted of some badly cooked mains with very little choice - and they had the nerve to ask $20. The following evening we went to Hotel Hacienda Guachipelín, a... More

Yes there are bugs (galore!) but the setting is lovely and we enjoyed our night there. The rooms are basic for the.price but the setting made up for that. Can't understand the comments about the food which we thought was pretty good. Not a bad choice.

This lodge has an amazingly serene location. The cabins are located around a small lake and each has a balcony with a hammock for relaxing, most facing towards the sunset. There are numerous adventure activities which can be undertaken. The zip line through the forest canopy is a must. The walks to various waterfalls and swimming holes were also fantastic... More

Rustic rooms. Very quiet, beautiful surroundings with the horses roaming free on the property. The cabanas are nice with their hammocks. We loved the horse-riding. Our guide Jose was very knowledgable of Nature and has been collecting butterflies and contributed to the research of a very famous american biologist (Dr. Janzen), and he is great with children during the horse-riding.... This place has a excellent one day adventure pass for $85 which is worth it because it includes horseback riding, tubing down fairly mild rapids, zip line, hot springs and a fantastic lunch. The owners have a mint here with the adventure pass. The hotel is nice but seems to be secondary venture. The rooms are clean but the staff... More

This property is gorgeous and the fact that you are on the edge of the National Park is a huge plus BUT the food is horrendous, the lodgings (because of the holes between boards) let a myriad of bugs in on a constant basis, and electricity is only on for a few hours per day. None through the night to... More
