We stayed here because it was right across the campus. In retrospect, we should have stayed at a real hotel down the street. This place is a dorm/apartment converted to a hotel. They have no real hotel staff. The room we had was sub-par - bathroom with decayed door, sink in the bedroom, old shower head, in-window non-thermostat controlled AC... more
I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of Beau Sky Hotel. Originally, I had planned to stay at the Durrant, and my reservation fell through. I stumbled upon this BEAUtiful hotel by chance, and will be sure to return again if in need of a place to stay in Berkeley. Make your reservations early! I got lucky that they had... more
I made my reservation at the Beau Sky before reading the reviews, and I have to say that I almost cancelled my reservation because of them. I decided to “tough it out,” and am writing to balance the negative responses. My experience was actually a very positive one even though I was biased against the hotel before arriving, because of... more
Well, I DID read the reviews, but I wanted a real Berkeley experience, and I like Indian food, so I booked for two nights. It was the weekend of Cal Day, and when I called to make the reservation they said I had to book two nights since that would be a big weekend. No problem, we wanted Friday and... more
Really, the only good things I can say about this hotel are that it always seems to have rooms available (and now I know why), and that it accepts dogs. Oh, yes -- it's just a few doors down from the amazing Top Dog sausage stand...but that doesn't make up for the stench, the bugs, the utterly inferior plumbing, the... more
The biggest problem with this place is the smell. There's an Indian restaurant in the lobby and the smell permeates the entire hotel. I was on the third floor, and it smelled like someone was frying samosas in my closet. Other than that, good location and really nice staff. more
thought the Beau Sky the Ritz. An old fashioned hotel with simple rooms but the concierges and all of the staff treat everyone like royal guests. And the mattresses are so thick, everything so clean. Though the rooms are simple nothing is lacking except chocolate on the pillow which I didn't want nor need anyway. And downstairs is the House... more
Don't expect your reservation to mean anything to these people. We made a block booking for a wedding party, sent out all the information to our guests, but when people came to confirm bookings they were told the hotel was completely booked for the whole month of July. Expecting a simple mistake we called the Hotel, but were told that... more
There are mediocre hotels, there are bad hotels, and then there are hotels so awful you tell your friends about it. You've already read about the pervasive curry smell... but no one here has yet mentioned the fact that the rooms have no closets, just cheap IKEA style coat racks. The bathroom is cramped and uncomfortable. Heat is provided by... more
