Surely, the online reviews were too harsh. Have attended social events at the Claremont- seemed fine. We had a three day stay and multiple reactions. Staff at Front Desk (Joy) was not familiar with the concept of Customer Service - made check-in a chore. First impressions are lasting. A quick bite in Paragon - while we waited for all three... Although pricey, I enjoy the hotel and their athletic club, great gym and classes. Spa underwhelming. Spa amenities old and not great. Spa attendants not helpful. Service providers quite good but you pay a 19% service charge for spa. Restaurants food and service good. There is a large difference in the rooms so be aware when checking in.

Is a fairly regal, large, well kept resort... Good location, close to College Avenue and quaint eateries, shopping and scores of kids with laptops in coffee shops. Plus 30 minutes drive to Frisco Coming from India - Indian hotels where even the most basic hotels have small fridges, complimentary water - here there was none. Cannot understand why even luxury... Beautiful property but expensive only stay here if you will be utilizing the property - spa - pool etc otherwise stay at another hotel a little further out. This is by far the best hotel in Berkeley the others are old, dark and need renovations. This property is bright , clean and airy. Parking is expensive and remember there is... More

I live in Oakland and needed to get out of my apartment for a night. I rarely stay in hotels and never at upscale ones, so I expect a lot when I plunk down this much for a room. While the architecture is beautiful and the staff very attentive, I was not impressed. Because I checked in very late I... More

This place is completely over-rated and I hated it. It was overpriced, the room decor was as boring and dated as could be, no bath tub, air con from kitchens was right outside my bedroom windown and really loud all night long so no chance to sleep, very limited amenities in bathroom and only replenished every 2-3 days, lousy wifi,... You would not even realize that California is experiencing a drought when you stay at this hotel. There is a small sign saying that we can help the drought situation by reusing towels, but most hotels do this now. There was no way to control the water flow for the shower or the toilet. The water flow in the fitness... More

I stayed here for work so my review is through that lens. It certainly looks the part of a charming old hotel. Plenty of character and variety unlike most modern block hotels. The check in process was simple and efficient. The little interaction I had with the staff was all positive but I was very low maintenance. My room was... More

I've lived in Berkeley for 40 years, so I know the Claremont very well. Over the years, I've eaten in the restaurants, attended meetings, and taken advantage of their "Come Spend A Day In Our Club" offers. When I was a freshman at Cal in 1974, there was a rumor that you could sneak in the hotel and slide down... More

CHECK In -- Horrible. Did you ever have to stand in line at a bank and wonder why only two tellers were working and there were three closed windows? With only two clerks, each check in took up to 10 minutes. That's too long when 4 or 5 fidgeting couples are waiting to check in. Either shorten the length of... More
