My sub-par rating is entirely based on its business hotel qualities. If you’re there for other reasons, this property may be more suitable. I stayed here for three days and would not return. I think they might be better off calling this place a Hostel or maybe convert it to senior living. Although it’s a historic building with some nice... More

We stayed here for one night. It is a historic building, which means it's old but well maintained. I could see how you could call it charming, but it's also kind of creepy, in a "The Shining" kind of way. Weird paintings depict things like a group of children standing together, with one girl a step away holding a hammer... More

I stayed with my sister at this lovely historic property that is beautiful and charming, though a little worn around the edges. I am very forgiving of less than perfection, however, when the architecture, history and atmosphere are as enchanting as this hotel. From the staircase to elevators to gardens to hidden alcoves, this hotel is a step back in... More

We had a two night stay at this lovely historic hotel for a family wedding. The building dated back to the 1920’s and we loved the architecture and the old fashioned feel to the reception and all the rooms. The atmosphere was more like an old academic institution rather than a hotel and was calm, and quiet. There were signs... More

I stayed with a family member (kid) at the Berkeley City Club not long ago, and it just occurred to me that it's a great option for those organizing a college trip to see Berkeley, Mills, St. Mary's, or San Francisco schools. It's walkable to BART, and affordable.

During your stay be sure & find all 3 gardens. In addition each floor has a small outside space where, when it is clear, you have a view of San Francisco & Golden Gate Bridge. Try to time a view at sunset. Don’t forget to notice the details. The architect, Julia Morgan, also designed most of the light fixtures, as... More

The lovely old building designed by Julia Morgan in the 20's is now a hotel/b and b. Much more reasonable than most places in San Francisco and Berkeley, and a very central location. The rooms can be small, and the bathrooms are original; but i have stayed here many times, and love all the old rooms; and the first two... More

Great experience at this historic hotel. Great breakfast in very nice dining room. Old but extremely well maintained. A real treat. Indoor swimming pool was interesting. Parking pricey at $20 a night . Walking distance to UC Berkeley.

Family and friends all booked rooms at the lovely Berkeley City Club, where my niece's wedding reception took place. What a beautiful, historic gem! Room rates at The City Club are reasonable, with a civilized breakfast included. This is an elegant little piece of history, designed by the first female architect in California, Julia Morgan. The structure is very well-kept... More

My husband spent our first night here of a two night get away. We got a great deal using Groupon for a queen bed room. Plan to spend some time exploring and taking in the architecture and gardens of this property - they are amazing. Bring your swimsuit and don't miss out on a chance to swim in their beautiful...
