The Berkeley City Club is a California classic designed by Julia Morgan, the same architect who did the Hearst Castle. It's faux European made of reinforced concrete, with high ceilings and so on. But it's not worth £200 a night, which is what it will set you back. The rooms are small but fine, and the wifi works. But there's... More

Hotel was filled with history.. Great location, perfect space for a wedding or a gathering. Surprisingly, had a great list of wine.. Not your typical cali cab. Rates were fair, and rooms were clean and filled with character.

I travel to England a lot and this is just like visiting one of the old manor houses in rural England. The architecture is lovely to view, nice garden, in pretty good condition. It is not to some American's standards as it does not look new, it looks welcoming and inspiring. Certainly not in poor condition. The rooms are fine,... More

Of course the hotel is very impressive being an old establishment with lots of character. The arrival is a little off the mark. I think the person checking you in should not be eating. The dinner was outstanding and just simply delicious. The room is VERY basic ... No TV. I am having to charge my phone and iPad on... More

First I will say that this is quite a unique experience. We had paid for a room upgrade but overall the room was just okay. We were in town for a business trip that took us into the wine country and not wanting to face the horrendous morning commute to the airport, decided to stay here one night so we... More

This hotel is beautiful, and in a very good location to explore Berkeley and its surrounds, however this hotel could be amazing with a few additions. Firstly we stayed in room 308 a nice big room with dual aspect which helped with air flow considering there is no airconditioning and the room smelled terribly of mustiness! Definitely needed airing out... More

Visit an historical landmark a Julia Mogan Design. It's a step back in time, untouched unbotequed . A secret is this private club on Berkely Campus provides eccentric lodging -no TV. Also the 5 Star restaurant ,Julia's is excellent, great cocktails, awesome wine list. Get away from it all, dress to complement the 20's architecture.

Booked two rooms for a party of five. A block away from Haas Pavilion, walking distance to restaurants and shops, whether fine food on Shattuck or pizza on Telegraph. Quiet, lovely views. We felt special staying here. Rooms are old, but everything was tasteful and clean. You do not need to be a member.

We traveled to Northern CA for a conference in San Francisco. They hotels there were astonishingly high priced, so we decided to revisit the Berkeley City Club. My husband took the BART in to San Francisco. My daughter and I explored the beautiful building, designed by the fabulous Julia Morgan (a great role-model for our 11-year-old daughter to learn about),... More

The Berkeley City Club is in a building built in 1930 by Architect Julia Morgan. Designated as a historical cite in Berkeley entering into the hotel for the night is a wonderful experience.
