If you want cheap, this is your place. It's run down, everything needs to be replaced- its either broken, stained, lumpy, cracked, chipped, warped, musty and just plain discusting. I stayed one night and that was all I could have handled. There was a big group of us staying there for my brothers wedding, and one room had a crack... More

Thank you for taking the time to review my property. I want to personally apologize that your stay was not up to your expectations. At the Golden Bear Inn, we strive to give our guests the very best experience when on the road away from home. We will continue to work to improve our property where needed and suggestions like... This is located in a cute, multi-cultural, hippie part of town. Lots of great little restaurants and shops nearby. We came just for a cheap place to stay while we visited San Francisco, and it was much better than we expected. The staff were very nice, and the architecture looked like an old, Spanish courtyard. Of course the rooms were... More

Our trip to the Bay Area was a long time coming. We travel on a budget. So while we were saving, I used my favorite Trip Advisor to narrow down our options. I am diligent in my search for a three star hotel for a one star price. I poured over my fellow reviewers observations and found a motel that... More

I was in CA to visit some friends and needed a local place to stay. A friend recommended the Golden Bear Inn based on its centralized location and affordable rates. Its appearance reminded me of being in an old Spanish-style building with its white exterior walls and red tiled roof. Benches provided ample seating outside the rooms to allow guests... More

I don't ask much from the Golden Bear Inn, and it delivers. I have a kid to visit at Cal, I need a place to lay my head, and I don't want to spend much money. I get what I expect at the price. It's clean, the shower works, the bed is decent, there's a small fridge and a small... More

I would only recommend this hotel if you don't find anything decent around in town. The room, service was quite ordinary. The bathroom was quite old and crappy. The walls are quite thin and you keep hearing your neighbors now and then. The good thing about the place is the location since everything around Berkeley is easily accessible. There is a... More

This motel was clean, the staff was friendly, and the bed ok. If that's all that matters to you, then a stay here is a bargin. However, we had to put up with stained carpets, difficult to close windows, and a sticking bathroom door. The thing that bothered us most was the thin walls, Neighbors could be heard talking on... I enjoyed my stay at the GBI. The rooms were a bit worn but they are being gradually updated, i.e. the showers. The carpets should be next on the list. The location was great - close to BART and on a major bus line. I spent most of my time traveling not lounging in my room. I was by myself... More

A sign at the entrance says that the hotel has been there since 1946 and it looks from that era. There are two stucco buildings---a one-story and a two story building. You park in front of your room, motor court style. I had a room in the one-story section. The window in my bathroom faced directly onto the San Pablo... More
