On a whim I decided to stay in a hostel intead of a hotel during my most recent trip to the Bay Area and I couldn't have been happier with my decision. There is a true sense of community at the Piedmont House. The place is full of colorful characters. The staff was super helpful and seemed as though they... More

The best hostel I have ever been!! Very nice people, very nice place. Free wifi, clean bathroons and all you need for one night. It's located near the university and the bart station. There is no other better place to stay in Berkeley.

I booked three nights in this horrible place. The first night I stayed in a room that smelled of paint with a terrible bed. The following day I was moved to a larger room (14) within a few hours I realised that the bed was infested with bed bugs. I alerted the manager who grudgingly moved me to room 15.... More

As a resident of northern California since 1972, I easily recommend the Piedmont House hostel for your stay in the east bay. Aside from the fact that its location is quiet and convenient to everything culturally worthwhile in Berkeley, the management is long-time steeped in spiritual cultivation, and knowledgeable of the needs of travelers. This place offers the typical hostel experience: simple sleeping space, shared kitchen and bathroom and a great atmosphere to share meals with people and meet travelers from all sorts of walks of life. I had a great time here and can recommend it very highly. The staff and owners are very friendly and the clientele likewise. No hiccups with any... More

Nice spot and nice people! don't expect it to be a 5-star hotel, though it's a welcoming place with welcoming people ;) I've stayed there alone on a business trip and I've met nice people who soon became friends!

Great spot. I've stayed at many hostels in Europe but Piedmont House was my first hostel experience in the US and the experience couldn't have gone any better. The price is fantastic, much lower than any nearby hotels, and the place has a friendly and communal feel to it, especially the shared kitchen and dining areas. It was my first... More

This place is just poorly kept. It's dirty and half of everything in it is broken and/or covered in plastic, I assume due to bed bugs. We attempted to stay there and left when we realized that it wouldn't be possible to sleep in such a dirty bed. Most hostels are communal in the sense there is a desk agent... More

I've stayed in close to 10 hostels on my current vacation in the U.s - the standard has been overwhelmingly high. Until I reached Piedmont: it is incredibly poorly signposted and difficult to locate; it's check in and booking procedure feels unsecure and vague; most of all, the filth of the rooms. Bugs in my room, pieces of bread, mould... More

I am very upset about the service you have given me in the hostel. I had a severe allergy on the face, neck and bust with the bugs that were in the room. Also, they changed my reservation of a large one small room without asking, changed the rate. Piedmont House has bad service hurtful to health, must take care... More
