I had an enjoyable and relaxing stay. The staff members were helpful, the room was very clean, and the continental breakfasts were better than most. The hotel is small, quiet, and has charming interiors. It is heritage listed. The room I stayed in was small, but large enough for my needs. There is a great coffee shop next door, and... more

I always put the mom-in-law up here when I lived in Berkeley and now when I visit I stay here, too. It's quaint and small. No real amenities and a little rundown, but it's great to sit on the rooftop and gaze out at the Bay. Location is also supreme, right across from campus and next to Strada. Depending on... more

My colleagues and I booked at the Bancroft because of its proximity to a multi-day conference on the UCB campus. After reading the dismal earlier reviews on Tripadvisor, we were not looking forward to the experience. Our visit was positive, with a few minor blips. Location: adjacent to main campus, bus stop, Museum / Pacific Film Archive, surrounded by restaurants... more

We arrived early at the Bancroft Hotel due to our flight schedule, to be greeted by friendly staff willing to store our luggage and recommend a superb restaurant for lunch up the street. When I inquired about a ballet performance that weekend based upon my seeing a flyer on the counter, staff volunteered to check on the availability of tickets... more

OK - I am a very experienced traveler and will give an objective review. Firstly, great location for the Berkeley campus, right across the street. The staff are very helpful and go out of their way for you. However, this is an old hotel (historic). The rooms are upstairs and there is no elevator. Likely does not meet any earthquake... more

We never even ended up staying here due to their poor handling of our waitlist reservation. We were waitlisted for 5 months and supposedly first on the list. Everytime we called we were a different number on the list. When they finally called to tell us our reservation had cleared, apparently one hour was not soon enough to return the... more

We have been going to the Bancroft for years and have always been satisfied with the staff and the accomodations. On our last visit, the staff was especially helpful. Michael (behind the desk) went out of his way to make sure we enjoyed our stay. While the rooms are a bit small, they have always been very clean. While our... more

We were put into a tiny room on the 2nd floor with musty interior. The mgmt of this hotel had rented their conference room for a student party that started at 11PM. The music was loud, as were the drunk students - until at least 2AM. We couldn't sleep at all. Terrible. more

I recently stayed at this hotel with my boyfriend. We were there for just one night after a wedding down the street. It's in a great location. The hotel itself is a bit dated. I liked that they had their own parking lot so we didn't have to worry about that. The room was a bit on the tiny side.... more

The Bancroft could be a delightful boutique hotel, but instead it is a rather tired property with small rooms, huge but bare common areas and a bleak breakfast room tacked on the side. We hope someone acquires and renovates it, because the location is superb - right next to the campus and the museum. more
