It's difficult to equal the rest of the reviews on Oudrif but will give it a good try. I was looking for an escape from the hustle and bustle of city life and achieved exactly that (and more). Even the drive from Clanwilliam to Oudrif is exceptional though it takes some time due to dirt roads, but time was something... More

Our third visit. To us a must when we travel to South Africa. Little I can add to our previous 2 reviews other than to say that Bill and Jeanine continue to serve up top quality hospitality and food - as evidenced by all the other reviews, as well as allowing all their guests to enjoy the total peace of... Thank you to Jeanine and Bill for making our two night stay at Oudrif such a memorable occasion. We thoroughly enjoyed the peaceful surroundings. The hosts' knowledge of fauna and flora was outstanding. They are clearly dedicated and driven individuals and their enthusiasm is contagious. We'll be back!

Oudrif is the type of place that leaves an imprint on you. It takes a while to get there and the road is not smooth, but when you get there its worth it. It feels like you are in the middle of nowhere, and you are definitely off the grid. We stayed for two nights on our honeymoon with friends.... More

Not a place for people who: 1 Don't like gravel roads. 2 Want TV in the room. 3 Don't like animals. 4 Have no interest in nature. A must for people who: 1 Enjoy informative walks. 2 Enjoy peace and quiet. 3 Appreciate great cooking. 4 Enjoy meals in the company of interesting fellow guests and hosts. It was our... More

Stayed 2 nights and had the best time. between the amazing food, the cave paintings and lounging by the river it is difficult to say what is best about this place. Bill and Jeannine really go above and beyond to help you I had a problem with my vehicle and Bill went out of his way to help repair it.... More

Ou drif is an easy 280km drive from Cape Town (35km on a manageable dirt road). Hosts Bill and Janine effortlessly provide seamless delivery of the most delicious array of salads, braai and (free) drinks, using home grown organic leaves and herbs, pot bread and homemade ice creams. Individual cottages house the bedroom with en suite and private lounge area... More

Oudrif is probably the most perfect getaway we have ever stayed in. The remote setting is idyllic with the straw bale cottages spaced along the valley side giving views over the Doring River and beyond. Our cottage was spacious, with simple, but comfortable furnishing, en suite shower etc. and a veranda complete with seating. All meals were served in the... More

This place is just perfect if you want to go away from day-to-day routine, internet access (which keeps you busy even during your holidays) and city bustle. The food is more than delicious, the communal dinners prevent that you become lonely and the setting in the middle of the Cedarberg's beautiful outskirts is the perfect icing on the cake.

We had a seven week holiday in South Africa and Oudrif was our last stop before flying back to Australia. We drove there after four wonderful days in Paternoster, which is an amazing place, thinking we had enjoyed the best South Africa had to offer. Well, there might be no sea, it might be a wee bit remote and there... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Heavenly Eco- Friendly straw bale cottages on the banks of the Doring River. A place to relax and unwind, stargaze and rinse the stress of the city in the pristine Doring River. In the Cedarberg, on the banks of the Doring River, Oudrif provides accommodation in stylish straw bale cottages, for people who relish peace and quiet and being close to nature. The pristine river provides ample opportunity for paddling, swimming, fishing and sun bathing on secluded beaches Every winter, the area has played host to the largest wild flower display in the world. Oudrif is situated on the unspoilt Doring River at the foothills of the Cedarberg in a transition zone between the Cedarberg, Karoo and Nama regions. This unique location has resulted in Oudrif being home to a stunning variety of fauna and flora, as well as a rich heritage of San rock art, Stone Age artefacts and fossils whose origins date back millions of years. Accommodation Oudrif provides accommodation in stylish straw bale cottages. The cottages are constructed using environmentally sound principles, including the use of timber from invasive trees, pre-used fittings and solar power for lights. In keeping with the overwhelming sense of peace at Oudrif, it was decided that if the experience was to be shared with others, preservation of the heritage of the area was imperative. Therefore accommodation on the farm is limited to a maximum of 10 people at any one time. This not only ensures the serene contentment visitors deserve, but also limits the impact that people have on the sensitive environment. Dining Cafe style, fusion food and drinks are served in the boma or dining area, all contained in an area that has been kept as natural as possible. All in all, a good time is guaranteed. Oudrif caters for special dietary requirements. ... more   less
