We stayed three nights in Hostel Caracol and loved it. The rooms are spacious, bright and very clean and the beds comfortable. The shared bathroom we used was fairly big, immaculately clean and has the loveliest, hottest shower. But the best were the staff - Marta helped us with planning our trip around Colombia, made a reservation for us at... More

I have stayed here twice during the past year. The owners are a Scottish couple who are both exceptionally knowledgeable about the area and take extreme pride in their hostel. The support staff is equally professional and very friendly. The private rooms are large and clean and the dorms are spacious. There are plenty of bathrooms/showers - all of which... More

We only stayed at the Caracol for one night, but wish we could have stayed longer. The hostel was tastefully decorated, quiet, and clean. Lots of hot water in the showers. We stayed in the room directly opposite from the reception desk and didn't have any problem with noise. The chairs in the common areas are more suitable for children,... More

We stayed here for two nights, originally had booked in the dorm (which seemed very nice) but it looked like the other guests were using all the floor space so asked for a private which we got with no bother. Place is very nice, very clean. Really nice bathrooms, though the shower I tried wasn't so warm. Really helpful and... More

This hostel is very nice, quiet and extremely clean. However a few very minor details could have put it over the top. The rooms were small and basic. Something as simple as coat hooks and a mirror could have made a huge difference. It rained a fair bit and there was no place to even hang our damp bath towels,... More

If you are looking for a comfortable, friendly and central location in a colonial home in Popayan, then look no further as the Caracol is it. Comfortably furnished and impeccably clean the Caracol is run by Scot, Tony Clark and his team of enthusiastic staff. During my stay they were on hand to ensure that everything was up to standard,... I was at the hostal during the week, so I can't speak to issues of noisy guests on weekends. But my stay was wonderful. It's one of the cleanest and most well-kept hostels I've seen. Very bright, colorful, well-tended space, with clean rooms, comfortable beds, hot showers, and plenty of bathrooms. Very friendly staff and clean kitchen. Although they don't... More

We checked into Caracol after reading it was popular with older traveller - I am 36. Initially, we were thrilled. It was a clean chill place with a comfy bed. Unfortunately there were a group of young Colombians who came in at all hours of the night, (2am and 3am), talked loudly and would have continued but we asked them... More

I am an older traveller. Enjoyed the coolness of Popyan very much and the hostel was great. Not noisy. Classy. Great rooms with super beds and plenty of showers and toilets. Nice seating area and coffee shop at the front. Good WiFi and two computer stations. Well stocked kitchen. Simply excellent and also well located.

Hostel Caracol is definitely the best you can find in Popayan, but comparing to hostels in other places some things can be improved. Even though or reservation was written down in their big reservations book, somebody of the staff had given our private room to somebody else. After some talking, and us making clear that we weren't going to stay... More
