This hotel looked so promising from the outside and from the courtyard. No such luck- a small gloomy room with cooking smells from the very nearby kitchen- the latter meaning an early morning wake up call! The next door disco went on till the early hours to mean minimal sleep. As others have said the breakfast was poor- the worst... More

We thought we had chosen a nice, old hotel in the city center. The room was very small and stuffy, and the lamp above one of the beds almost broke my glasses as it suddenly fell down (apparently it wasn't properly fixed, I guess I was lucky not to get hurt). During the night, a huge group of (obviously drunk)... More

Both my husband and I are planning to come back to Cajamarca and we'd definitely stay at the Portal del Marquez hotel. The owner was welcoming and he gave us great recommendations for hotels and restaurants on our way to Trujillo. Their restaurant is pretty good, clean and accommodating to your requests. We enjoyed breakfast so much that we decided... More

We were on a 3-week, small-group tour of Peru and stayed here 2 nights. There is no correlation between what the hotel calls itself and what the traveler experiences. Our room was on the second floor in the second of two courtyards. The only window in the room was facing the corridor so the curtains had to remain closed. The... More

We had the sad situation of our 13 year old daughter needing an emergency appendictomy in Cajamarca while on vacation. The whole thing was so scary and we had to split night sleeping in the clinic with my daughter during recovery. We would go here at odd time to nap and shower. My once tme I came out to a... More

We stayed for three nights in Cajamarca the second week of May at the Hotel Portal del Marquez, built into an old Spanish house with two courtyards. The room was quite charming, and the bathroom was newly tiled. There was wireless internet in the room. The major drawback to our room, which was over the courtyard nearest the street, was... More
