We had occasion to seek out a place to lay our heads when work called me to the Far North of Sutherland in the Highlands of Scotland. We chose to stay at The Craggan - a bijou hotel across the causeway to the north of Tongue. A remote location but one with stunningly beautiful scenery. Kate, our hostess at The... More

I stumbled across the Craggan by pure chance, I had the misfortune of suffering mechanical problems and needed somewhere to stay overnight, all I can say is that my mechanical problems were a blessing in disguise. On arrival I was met by Kate (the owner) who couldn't have been more helpful and welcoming, the hotel was quiet so Kate offered... More

Recommended to come here for food so we turned up for lunch. It was quiet. Food was exceptional. We love fish and seafood so ordered the scallops and Cullen skink starters and both had wild salmon fillet mains. Cooked and presented superbly. Thank you Kate for looking after us.

Great food and one the best meals i ever had. Try the pan seared wild salmon. It is excellent! Even the supreme of chicken was fantastic. The hotel is located very close to Talmine and is ideal for a relaxed fine dine lunch or dinner. The food is excellent with top quality ingredients.

Stayed here one night in August 2015 during the North Coast 500 Trip, Wish we had stayed longer. The menu was amazing, the hotel was pretty basic in itself, but it had a well stocked bar and great hospitality. Will certainly visit again!

If you are headed toward Durness in the highlands of Scotland, this is a lovely place to stop. It is actually in Melness and sits just up from the ragged coastline. The views are spectacular from the road. The menu is extensive and seems to me mostly local. and they do have outside seating. The presentation is lovely and the... More

Very nice cosy, typical Highland Hotel/pub with excellent food and reasonable prices given the remote location . I cannot understand the negative reviews, you cannot compare a little hotel in the highlands with hotels in main city centres. The welcome, food and views in the area are superb and the hotel also does a cheaper takeaway menu which the local community... More

Warm welcome on entering this small hotel from our hostess Kate, who showed us to our room. The room was immaculately clean, with a very comfortable double bed.Yes the bathroom was shared but we knew that on booking, but never had to wait. The views from the hotel were amazing, We enjoyed a 3 nights stay and went down to a... We ended up at this "hotel" on our way to visit some friends that live locally. We called in for a bite to eat before we got to our friends house to save them having to feed us' Thankfully we weren't staying here. On pulling into the car park we thought we had come to the wrong place as the... More
