The Ben Loyal Hotel is ideally situated for exploring the North Coast of Scotland, John O Groats to the East and Cape Wrath to the West are both within easy reach. The hotel food is of the top quality and the staff are extremely helpful and knowledgeable about the area. The dining room and residents lounge both look over Ben... More

We had dinner here one evening and really enjoyed it. The staff are genuinely friendly and helpful and the food is very tasty. I had a pasta dish that was really filling and delicious - I asked the waitress for some bread to mop up the remaining juices. We were surprised at how low the bill was - especially after... More

My wife and I stayed in the Ben loyal once before, and knew we'd return sooner rather than later. And we did, staying 24&25 June, 2014. We had a decent room in the annexe, the staff were very pleasant, food was good, especially the porridge at breakfast, a well priced "malt of the month" available in the bar, and the... More

A lovely stop-over in Tongue whilst on a cycle trip. Staff were exceptionally friendly, rooms comfortable & clean, with stunning views over the Sound of Tongue. We remained in cycling gear to eat as we were late arriving and the food was delicious. Two of our friends enjoyed meeting the locals in the bar for some live music later on!... More

I stayed in the Ben loyal recently on a tour all over the highlands. The food is absolutely delicious and freshly prepared. The hotel rooms are very comfortable and clean with everything you need. Good wifi connections available. Delicious local beers on tap. The scenery in the area is like a day in paradise. Good walking, fishing and an abundance... More

just had dinner at the pub of the Ben Loyal hotel (staying at the Hostel in Tongue): amazing salmon (smoked and gravlax for starters, all local produce and fresh!) and the venison casserole and sea food pie for mains were DELICIOUS. All served by very friendly staff.....if ever I come back we will be eating here!

A really nice location, friendly staff & a great atmosphere inside. We arrived, were made very welcome ,it was late afternoon but they had Scones or Carrot cake. We decided to have scones, they were a good size, served with butter & individual pots of Caithness jam,Raspberry,Strawberry & Plum. They were exceptional. Thanks

We spent two nights here in May, with a west facing room which had fantastic views of Ben Loyal. The rooms were nice and the staff very friendly. This hotel is in a great location, with excellent biking routes close by. You are also within 30 mins drive from Ben Hope and Ben Loyal. We will be back one day!

There aren't many - if any - better destinations than Tongue for a bike trip in the UK. Parking at the Ben Loyal is ample, on proper hard standing (not gravel) and kit can be dried in the boiler room if you're unlucky with the weather... That can happen in the North of Scotland... While we did think £4 a... More

Recently stayed at hotel as part of a motorcycle tour with 5 friends. the rooms were a great size and more than adequate for my room-mate and I to store riding equipment. The hotel bar was pleasant, and the restaurant catered easily for us - the food was good and the staff pleasant. Having to set off early in the... More
