Just returned from a short visit to this one time gem. We have stayed in this hotel twice before and so having been very happy on our previous visits we were looking forward to another pleasant experience . The hotel is now under new management and is simply not anything like it once was. The staff were not very friendly... More

The Portaferry Hotel has had its ups and down in the last couple of years - receivership etc. It has been in new ownership for the last few months. This was our first visit since then and it didn't disappoint - although I'd have liked to see a fire lit in the bar because it was a chilly, wet day,... More

We did not stay here but had 2 meals in the bar area. The hotel lounge was nicely furnished & in both it & the bar open fires were evident--not lit when we were there as it was a very warm day. Our meals were excellent: the wonderful chowder with fresh wheaten bread was especially good. Service was with a... More

Stayed for a night in this hotel in July. Friendly staff, room was very clean except for the 3 pairs of socks left by the last guest, but other wise very clean. The food was fabulous... In fact the hotel was that nice we are bringing the children on our next visit in 3 weeks

I was surprised and pleased by how luxurious this lovely hotel is: the three star award is to an extent misleading. The room I stayed in was spacious, airy, beautifully furnished and had a lovely en suite bathroom. The food was delicious and the staff couldn't do enough to help. I warmly recommend a stay!

Dropped in a windy Sunday afternoon, we had though it had been bought over by Bill Wolesy" of the "Merchant hotel". We were expecting updated & grandeur, however this was not the case. We ate in the bar as the restaurant was not available. Basic honest fayre, with reasonable pricing & very pleasant accommodating staff. The whole experience was satisfactory.... More

First time staying since new owner took over and its not a change for the better. The hotel is no longer as friendly as it was. When I asked for the Manager (a young chap from Poland) but was told had left---what a pity as he was so helpful friendly and nothing was too much trouble him. Now everything seemed... More

Came up to Portaferry last week with my parents for a drive. Parked outside The Portaferry Hotel and checked out the menu which seemed exactly what we wanted.Plus the fact Portaferry doesn't appear to have any other restaurants our minds were easily made up. The restaurant inside is full of character, staff friendly and helpful and most importantly of all... More

When you walk into the hotel you take a step back in time.Visit this quaint hotel for fresh fish and succulent seafood served up on home made soda bread. The smell of wax on the shiny wooden floors reminds me of my childhood in the west of Ireland. All the beautiful original features are untouched. I sat outside on the... More
