On this holiday we decided to treat ourselves to some Paradors having never stayed in them before and always wondered what they were like. Having read the other reviews I thought they were a bit wingeing to say the least. This parador is a castle and in a terrific setting- because the parador seemed a little quiet we were upgraded... Not overly friendly or welcoming. We went for welcome drink on patio. Told gin and tonic not a welcome drink. Checked out and charged for four drinks because apparently in Paradores tonic is extra so paid 30€ for two free drinks. Room dark with one tiny window. Bathroom up to date but narrow. Had to clean hair out of bathtub... More

In Spain most of the old buildings such as castles, old Hospitals Monasteries..etc were transformed in Hotels, refurbished and brought up to life, so if you haven't been to one, it is worth to visit one....specially the one in Santiago de Compostela, called Hostal de or Reyes Catolicos this parador in Jarandilla de la Vera has a beautiful courtyard, very... Another stunning building, at the top of a hill in a historic Spanish town. Free parking in adjacent parking lot. Biker friendly parking at front door. Helpful receptionist, providing information on the facilities and showing guests to their room. Hotel is in the middle of town, so bars and supermarkets (Spar & Carrefour Express) are only a few minutes walk... More

The local area is beautiful. There's not a lot to do in Jarandilla and it's low on restaurants for dinner. The Parador is what we are coming to expect. Nice building with slightly tired but acceptable rooms and an average yet expensive restaurant. It has got to the point where we are always on the lookout for restaurants outside the... More

The main part of this hotel is stunning, the courtyard is a real beauty and a must photograph for any guest. However our joy was short lived. Our standard room was in the modern annexe linked to the main building. This generic box room would occupy many thousands of 2 star budget hotels. No character, grubby and poor decorative order.... I have stayed at over 30 paradors over the years - so have some experience... First the good: - Great exterior - looks like the fairy tale castles from the children's books - Nice common areas - thought underutilized The medium: - Typical rooms - quiet - Nice breakfast spread - Easy to find - free parking The low: -... The castle and the entrance to the hotel are very impressive and have lots of character. There are lovely gardens attached to the Parador and a swimming pool. The superior rooms are in the original castle. They’re a good size, very clean and comfortable. The bathroom was big and modern and also very clean. The staff are friendly and helpful.... More

A stunningly beautiful castle! Excellent service throughout and eating dinner outside in the courtyard was a memorable experience. It also had an excellent pool which was open in September (not to be assumed in Paradors)

We drove in steady rain from Madrid but when we arrived we quickly fell in love with this small castle which i am sure the exterior has not changed in 100s of years - and the interior, while modernized, retains very much the feeling of a castle. One could readily imagine Charles V who had stepped down as Emperor living... More
