We had a wonderful 3 nights here last week and would thoroughly recommend it. The only advice we have is not to book half-board (ie add dinner) in advance. The breakfasts are terrific. There are not enough staff for the dinners, though, and one waits endlessly between courses - the chefs may also be understaffed because meat often arrives browned... More

It's been a while since our last Parador visit - partly due to circumstances but partly down to them becoming a bit pricey and to the increasing competition from people like Rusticae - Casa Rurales etc They are back in our favour. Fantastic property just like the pictures, nice rooms - we were in standard ones , staff with better... More

We really had no idea what this would be like, but of the Paradors we considered, it was the most affordable (even as a treat), and the photos we saw were enticing. When we read that it sits above the non-touristy industrial town of Cardona, with its mountain of salt visible from the castle, we were hooked. The history goes... More

What a great castle! It really is very cool to sleep in a castle! The rooms are all renovated, modern and comfortable, and very quiet. You can wander around the castle, which all the boys (of all ages) loved. There is a terrace bar that is lovely, a great view of the town and the salt mine. The dinner is... More

Leaving Barcelona, we arrived at Montserrat around 11:00 and spent a good 5 hours there. Having hiked a good bit to see the amazing views there, we were ready for a break before heading on to La Seu D'urgell. Parador de Cardona was the perfect spot for and overnight. The location is stunning and the castle remains a delight to... More

The huge castle is not all the property of the Parador, and we were thrown out of the (architecturally stunning) 12th century chapel for not buying a ticket, which we didn’t know we needed as the notices were unobtrusive and in Spanish. But it is a stunning location, with amazing 360 degree views of the surrounding hills, the salt-mountain/mine and... More

OK so this is a touristy thing to do, but it really is very cool to sleep in a castle! They renovated the castle so the rooms are very modern - completely marble bathrooms! You can wander around the castle after dark and pretend you are living back in time - even the teenage boys thought this was a great... More

Really enjoyed our overnight stay here! Arrived by motorbike - easy to find - just use your eyes! Nice to be able to book in at 1300. Room was big and comfortable with a lovely view to distant hills. Not cutting edge decor but who cares- the situation is stunning! Looking down over a working salt mine seems appropriate as... More

Never had a bad visit to a Parador and Cardona was no exception. The staff is very kind, the setting in Cardona Castle is exceptional and the dinners were also very good quality/price. Typical breakfast with fresh fruits, juices, hot and cold dishes. The hotel however, really needs to be refurbished. Public areas and rooms are very tired -it could... More

Like many other paradores, Cardona is a mediaeval castle, set in a commanding position on top of a hill, from which you can take a (steep) walk into Cardona town, with its many tapas bars and restaurants, in about 15 minuteness. The restaurant is of the usual high standard and the views from the roof terrace bar and many of... More
