Santillana del Mar is a tourist theme park reminiscent of La Pobla Español in Barcelona, and one can rapidly tire of its studied perfection. However, it is undeniably beautiful, and on a sunny day out of season it makes a welcome brief escape from reality. Furthermore La Colegiata is a fine example of the many superb Romanesque churches preserved in... more

A charming hotel, with some small balconies (where you can sit and read in the evening). Delightful town, that is a zoo with tourists on weekends then evacuates. Hotel staff very accomodating. Breakfast, as much as you like--included. Parking in back of hotel--on site without extra charge. more

Santlllana del Mar is undoubtably pretty but very touristy. Tha Casa del Organista is a peaceful haven of tranquility within the walls but in a quieter part of the town/village. Secure private parking, open views from the back rooms over fields and historic buildings. Delightful staff, lovely buffet breakfast and comfortable rooms. Traditional, quirky and slightly old-fashioned. more

My wife and I stayed for 4 nights with a small infant and found the staff wonderfully helpful. The house itself is very beautiful and Santillana is a good base for exploring the region ( 40 mins to Santander ). Pleanty of good beaches near by more

Located within the walls of the ancient medieval village of Santillana del Mar is the hotel, Posada Casa del Organista. Why is it called the Casa del Organista? This was the home of the organist of the village’s cathedral, Santa Juliana, until purchased by the present owners and renovated into a fantastic small hotel. Dark wooden beams, ceramic tiled floors,... more

Had 2 nights in this lovely old building which has been beautifully restored. The buffet breakfast was amazing for the price (4.25 euros) and the staff (family members I think) were very helpful. A smattering of Spanish is useful in this area of Spain but the good thing is it's not overun with Brits or Americans. Really enjoyed our stay. more

A lovely hotel set in the centre of historic Santillana del mar. The hotel is full of character and our room had a great wooden balcony. The staff are friendly and helpful and breakfast was fantastic for 4.50 euros per person. There is a free car park at the back of the hotel. The only downside is that the rooms... more

The name of this posada intrigued me, as does the family who operate it. A sister and her 4 brothers all are extremely helpful and are always ready to respond to any question, including its name. Apparently it was owned at one time by the organist at the cathedral. Behind the posada is a private, secure parking lot, easily accessible... more
