We have stayed at Orchha homestay when we visited India in December 2014. Asha and Ashok are the first point of contact if you are interested in staying with a local family in this village. Both are very professional, helpful and efficient. They are ready to help you out before, during and even after your stay. We stayed for 3... More

We were travelling around all Madhya Pradesh this year and our stay at Orchha Homestay has been one of the best experiences of our trip. We had arranged it by email with Mrs. Asha and everything was simply perfect. We have marvellous memories of our two nights there: both the villages, Ganj and Orchha, are two gems you can easily... We visited Orchha Homestay for a week in October 2014. It was an unforgettable week, feeling the warmth and hospitality of the people of Ganj Mohalla, just outside Orchha. We stayed with the Bharti family, Mukesh, his three children, and grandma Dati. Although we arrived at 4am in the morning, Neetu (aged 13) was already up and ready for school,... More

We were on a roadtrip and had a very enjoyable stay in Orchha with Hari's family. Our kids got to see a real village home and kitchen. The bedroom was basic but comfortable. Bathrooms are modern and western. There is no ac but as we went in early December, the fan was good. We had one meal with the family,... More

Thanks for your appreciation and for the details of our prices. The host families are always happy to receive kids and their own children make friends easily with the guests. I'm sorry you found the food too spicy. We usually ask the gets about how much spice they would like and the families are quite used to keeping the chilli... More

The Orchha homestay experience was the best thing I could have hoped for. Living with the family in Ganj was a warm and welcoming experience. The way the family adjust and accommodates the guest is a very heart warming. The rooms are cozy. Perhaps cozier than my own room back home. And the food is sumptuous

Thanks so much for your appreciation of the hospitality of your host family and the 'sumptious' food. We haven't given them any training as hosts, so their welcome is always spontaneous and their food cooked in a traditional way. As they don't have fridges you can be sure it's always fresh! Glad you liked it and do come again. More

We stayed with Mukesh and his family who gave us a wonderful insight into how a rural Indian family lives. They had three beautiful children who are learning English at school and we were able to communicate with, particularly Neetu, their 12 year old daughter. Our beds were woven traditional style, but with mosquito nets and electricity, but there were no... More

That's precisely what we'd like our visitors to have - an experience of life in a family of small farmers, artisans and daily wage workers. Am so glad your family enjoyed it and am sure Mukesh's kids did too. His house is equipped with a shower but the municipal water supply is erratic and they may not have been able... More

Thanks so much for this 'wow' review - let's have more guests like you! Ours is really a social enterprise, trying to give relatively poor families the economic and cultural benefits of tourism. Our six home-stay families have received about 800 visitors each year from 30 different countries. The experience has touched their lives and that of our guests. If... More

We deliberately chose the homestay as we wanted a break from hotels and tourism. Our room was fine and the family were helpful. The food was good though we had some meals in the town. There are some interesting places to visit in the area and we preferred to walk the short distance into town. The only slight downside for... More

Thanks for your appreciation and your interest in our work. The home-stay provides livelihoods to six families at present who were all below poverty line. Receiving visitors has allowed them to triple their incomes, improve their homes, give them better access to educaiton and health care and made them more aware of other cultures. Communication is limited despite our attempts... More

This was one of the best homestays I have been to. The food was great and everyone was so nice. They had western toilets and a hose-shower. Rooms were cosy (no ac, which is fine in October). The only down side was their English speaking skills, so you had to either go through the non-profit who runs this or speak... More

Thanks so much for your appreciation which we will share with your host family. Yes, the language barrier is a challenge, but that is the real India - very few speak English and many of the adults we work with have never been to school. The kids do better though and manage to speak enough. Guess their smiles communicate more.... More

One of six families in the poor Ganj mohalla of Orchha, which is just a kilometre from the centre of this small town, hosts you. It's not a hotel or even a hostel, it's a home-stay. So you spend time with the hosts, share life stories, play with their kids, have food with them, and may even help them in... More

Thanks so much for taking the time to write such a detailed review that also describes your host family. By interacting with them you have already contributed to improving the 'harsh reality' which is the lot of many labourers in Bundelkhand. That there can be so much happiness despite poverty is a pleasant surprise for many of us who are... More
