We stayed in the room which had a view of the palace fortress. A great large room with beds, a fan, and a mosquito net in case you get some bugs. Had to use it on the second night, but otherwise a comfortable stay. The bathrooms are clean. They get their water delivered, so its good to be wise and... More

Thanks so much for your appreciation despite the drawbacks of the monsoon season when insects and flies abound. Since reading your review we have distributed new dish cloths to all the host families with instructions to keep the food covered. Your tummy upset may also be due to water - I take this opportunity to tell future visitors to use... More

My teenage daughter and I stayed here on a first time trip to India. I first learned about Orchha from a 2007 New York Times travel article on India, and Orchha Home Stay after Googling from there. Two Indian colleagues from work had never heard of Orchha and at first advised me not to go there. But then one of... More

Thanks ever so much for giving us full marks. Orchha has retained to some extent the atmosphere of a bygone age but we also try to give visitors of how rural Indian families live today. Glad you enjoyed grandma Kamala's cooking and your stay on the whole. A small correction for other guests - we don't have running hot water,... More

Very nice people at the homestay and very nice place at the same time . Outside of the city but with a magical view on Lakshmi temple , rajah palace and the tombstones at the same time. A real moment of authenticty.

So glad you appreciated this combination of the architectural beauty of a bygone age and the vivacity in the home of an ordinary Indian family today. Orchha and its home-stay is the bridge between an illustrious past and the present full of hope. Our host families have benefitted both economically and culturally from receiving guests like you. Thanks so much. More

I'm so glad I had a chance to stay in this village at least three days. Amazing home cooked meals, very clean, cozy rooms and friendly people. On top of all, had a chance to participate in traditional wedding! I strongly recommend to follow advise on the website and stay more than one night, to get to know family better.

Its not every day that we have the chance to welcome someone from Lithuania. So glad you liked the place and the food. Nothing to beat hot chappatis baked on a wood fire by Mitla! I enjoyed talking to you and look forward to seeing some of the photos you took of the wedding. Do come again! More

We have stayed at Orchha homestay when we visited India in December 2014. Asha and Ashok are the first point of contact if you are interested in staying with a local family in this village. Both are very professional, helpful and efficient. They are ready to help you out before, during and even after your stay. We stayed for 3... More

Your review really gives us a boost. Thanks so much. Grandma Kamala will be thrilled to know how much you liked her cooking. We have to thank you for providing entertainment to the whole neighbourhood with the Bundeli music evening - it's something everyone enjoys. I think those who appreciate the home-stay most are the kids - they sometimes manage... More

We were travelling around all Madhya Pradesh this year and our stay at Orchha Homestay has been one of the best experiences of our trip. We had arranged it by email with Mrs. Asha and everything was simply perfect. We have marvellous memories of our two nights there: both the villages, Ganj and Orchha, are two gems you can easily... I'm so glad you enjoyed the home-stay as well as the opportunity to befriend other travellers. Thanks for giving us full marks and for appreciating Ashok's work. We are sponsoring him for a degree in hotel management so he will become even more professional soon. For the information of other travellers, our toilets and bathing rooms are a few feet... More

We visited Orchha Homestay for a week in October 2014. It was an unforgettable week, feeling the warmth and hospitality of the people of Ganj Mohalla, just outside Orchha. We stayed with the Bharti family, Mukesh, his three children, and grandma Dati. Although we arrived at 4am in the morning, Neetu (aged 13) was already up and ready for school,... More

Thank you so much for this wonderful review that actually reflects the feelings that the home-stay experience evokes. Mukesh's kids behave exactly as we want the home-stay children to - they know when to interact and when to leave the guests in peace. I enjoyed meeting you too and discussing everything from UK politics to environment protection. Do keep good... More

We were on a roadtrip and had a very enjoyable stay in Orchha with Hari's family. Our kids got to see a real village home and kitchen. The bedroom was basic but comfortable. Bathrooms are modern and western. There is no ac but as we went in early December, the fan was good. We had one meal with the family,... More

Thanks for your appreciation and for the details of our prices. The host families are always happy to receive kids and their own children make friends easily with the guests. I'm sorry you found the food too spicy. We usually ask the gets about how much spice they would like and the families are quite used to keeping the chilli... More

The Orchha homestay experience was the best thing I could have hoped for. Living with the family in Ganj was a warm and welcoming experience. The way the family adjust and accommodates the guest is a very heart warming. The rooms are cozy. Perhaps cozier than my own room back home. And the food is sumptuous

Thanks so much for your appreciation of the hospitality of your host family and the 'sumptious' food. We haven't given them any training as hosts, so their welcome is always spontaneous and their food cooked in a traditional way. As they don't have fridges you can be sure it's always fresh! Glad you liked it and do come again. More

We stayed with Mukesh and his family who gave us a wonderful insight into how a rural Indian family lives. They had three beautiful children who are learning English at school and we were able to communicate with, particularly Neetu, their 12 year old daughter. Our beds were woven traditional style, but with mosquito nets and electricity, but there were no... More

That's precisely what we'd like our visitors to have - an experience of life in a family of small farmers, artisans and daily wage workers. Am so glad your family enjoyed it and am sure Mukesh's kids did too. His house is equipped with a shower but the municipal water supply is erratic and they may not have been able... More
