Beautiful setting and A+++ service. We had our personal attendant (Michaels), and our tour guide was Matthews. The attention to detail and customer service was outstanding. Besides game drives and river cruises for the normal animal viewing, the staff went out of their way to ensure we had a personalized experience including a candlelit dinner on our cabin veranda and... I was in Lilongwe for work and came down to Mvuu for 2 nights with a colleague. It was our first game park in Africa. We had a wodnerful time. We had been warned that in rainy seasons it is harder to see aninmals, but we actually saw a lot, including lots of elephants. The rooms at mvuu camp are... More

It has been a while now since I visited Mvuu but I have to say don't leave Malawi without trying to get out there. The accommodation was amazing and the food was delicious. The activities and guides were the best I had experienced.

We spent 3 nights here , a last minute decision to include a visit. It was above all our expectations from the accommodation , the food and the exceptional friendliness of all the staff, thanks to Sarah and Nick for making our experience memorable. We saw lots of wildlife and did everything on offer from the early morning walks, boat... More

I don't think you can spent a night with this price in other national parks. Unfortunately, there are no lions or other predators, but you can see elephants and hippos very closely. I heard hippo noise from my chalet and felt I stayed in the center of wildness.

Its a lovely place. very clean chalets, helpful staff (especially Sarah), the food is lovely and the organised activities are fantastic. Surprisingly the drinks are very affordable. Its not a place for doing a lot. Bring a book. Its more of a chilling retreat with wild life thrown in. Don't expect animal numbers as in the parks in the major... More

We spent 2 very relaxing days here in December with some good friends, and literally had the place to ourselves! Sarah & Nick were very accommodating from when we arrived until we left. Our every need was taken care of, even when I desperately needed an internet connection for a work emergency, they managed to sort something out for me!... More

I am not sure this is very helpful to readers but I just can not find anything negative to say about this place. The food is first rate, which was a surprise as we had been warned not to expect too much. The staff are very helpful and have an in-depth knowledge of their environment that they are happy to... Thank you Sarah, Nick, Tom, Justin, Jim and all of the staff who create this tranquil and comforting setting amid wild animals! I was moved to feel part of the landscape, without intruding too much. We stayed at the lodge as a group of 6 friends and pretty much had the place to ourselves. On arrival we were treated to a fantastic lunch and then shown around by Sarah our host who was great. The set up is brilliant with the lodge on the edge of a watering hole and the chalets then further spread... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Ideally positioned for you to explore the captivating variety and beauty of Liwonde, Mvuu Wilderness Lodge lies discreetly on the banks of a quiet lagoon off the broad Shire River. This languid waterway is Malawi’s largest river which sets the stage for an awesome wilderness spectacle. What’s more, the main lounge area is set just above the water for you to make the most of the surrounding wildlife and birds from camp. With a similar concept, our eight stylish en-suite tents are erected on wooden platforms and incorporate an intimate veranda. Lodge facilities also include a dining room, pub, extensive wildlife library, a hide overlooking the river and a natural rock swimming pool.Did you know?Since our inception into Liwonde in 1994, large areas of the Park have been rehabilitated; some 500 local people currently benefit financially from our camps. The diverse landscape includes relatively dry mopane woodlands interspersed with candelabra trees, patches of miombo, palm savannah and numerous baobabs on extensive floodplains and dense riverine vegetation.Your activities include boating, game drives (day and night) and cultural visits to villages across the river.Mvuu means ‘hippo’ in Tonga, referring to the large numbers that occur here. The Park is also home to elephant, rare black rhino, sable, waterbuck, Lichtenstein’s hartebeest and, rarely, lion. The prolific bird life includes African Skimmer, Palmnut Vulture and White-backed Night-Heron. ... more   less
