Called in for lunch with my boyfriend as we both had a few hours before work. The decor is pretty outdated however I quite liked it as it gave a traditional cosy feel. We didn't wait long to be seated or to get our drink and order food, however, the wait for the food was ridiculous. There was not a... More

Chosen because of proximity to Durham. Booking in straightforward. Reception in pub with well worn grubby carpets. Dark and unwelcoming. Evening meal disappointing, my steak was so tough I couldn't cut it! Waitress seemed inexperienced and just shrugged. When mentioned to what appeared to be a more senior member of staff he did apologise. My husband ordered banana sundae for... More

Having struggled locally to find a decent Sunday lunch we were delighted with the food and service at the King's Head. Fresh, tasty, delicious Yorkshire puddings, roast beef and gravy. Desserts were also lovely. Will definitely be back 😊

Sunday lunch is very nice but after 3 people had visited our table, had to wait 20 minutes for someone to actually take the order. Everyone was stood outside at 12pm waiting for doors to open and they don't seem to have enough staff to cope.Dinner was lovely, but sadly won't be visiting the Kings Head again.

We visited the Kings head mid week with family. It is situated in the quiet well cared for village of Lanchester, about 10 miles from Durham city and 14 miles from A1. The restaurant was busy, staff very friendly and accommodating. Good selection beers/ wine. The menu was extensive and reasonably priced. Starter portions were large and could have sufficed... More

I stayed here with my mother and brother as we wanted to visit Beamish museum and thought we would have a better chance of seeing it all over two days. The Kings Head is situated at the bottom end of the quaint village of Lanchester. We had two rooms which were very nice, clean, with a hairdryer, tea/coffee lovely bedding... More
