The Viang Yonok hotel is a real treat. Ian and Vassana have put heart and soul into the kind of hotel they would like to stay in, the result is a relaxed and friendly family run hotel that’s the ideal place from which to explore this charming area of Northern Thailand. Every aspect of the hotel has been designed to... more

Vassana and Ian are the consummate hosts. They made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived and during our whole stay. When it was time for us to leave it was as if we were leaving our new home. Advice was freely given about sight-seeing ventures to what would be good for dinner. The food in the restaurant was... more

We stayed 4 nights in September and it wasn't enough. Thanks to Ian and Jim it is one of the most enjoyable stays at a hotel we have ever had. Room was great and loved waking up early to sit out on the balcony and look at the lake, what a beautiful sight to have right at your doorstep. Firstly,... more

We stayed here [sadly only one night only] on a recent trip through Cambodia, Laos and Thailand. The hotel is very very comfortable, lovely big rooms, comfortable beds, very snazzy bathrooms, great facilities including a pool and delicious meals. Ian and his wife and family were wonderul hosts who couldn't do enough to help us. The Beef Rendang we had... more

Picture an environment on the banks of Chiang Saen Lake, lovingly created to cater to guests in a gracious and welcoming manner, and you have entered the world of Ian and Vasana Smith, the owners of Viang Yonak Hotel. Ian, a British ex pat and his Thai wife, Vasana, built the hotel to cater to guests as they like to... more

Dear rosemarytraveler We are very happy you enjoyed your stay at Viang Yonok. Loy Krathong certainly was fun in the town that evening, we all had a good time together. You’ll have some great photos too, to remember your time in Chiang Saen. Best wishes to both of you Ian

Never has anywhere managed to cast such a spell on my workaholic husband, he was planning his return in the car on the way to the airport.Yiang Yonok managed to draw him almost to a standstill, we had intended 2-3 days but stayed 5 and loved every minute of it. Ian and Jim(Vassana) are delightful and welcomed you like friends... more

We stayed at Viang Yonok for the second time, for three nights in August. As on our previous stay (when we were stopping off en route to a Mekong cruise to Laos), Ian and Vasanna treated us like friends rather than guests. Every need was catered for, including fantastic meals cooked to order by Vasanna's Mum and her wonderful staff.... more

Dear JANWO It is most gratifying to know that you enjoyed your second stay at Viang Yonok so much and want to come back again. It really makes us feel that we are doing things right. I do love the chance to get out on the bicycles with our guests as the countryside is so beautiful and the old town...
