Built in the 17th century by one of the warring Rajas of Baltistan, the Shigar Fort is a perfectly restored example of the traditional fortress-palace. Home to countless generations of the Amacha Royal Family, it was built to serve as both a refuge and as a celebration the traditional heritage of this ancient Hunza dynasty. Today, exquisitely restored to its... More

This was our 3rd time visit to this amazing place in the last 6 years. Words are not enough to explain the beauty of this place. The takhts in the cherry garden, the breakfast under the grape vine and the stroll along the road to the mighty K2, its all mesmerizing. The friendliness of the staff never let us feel... More

What an experience. fantastic surroundings, friendly people, great place to stay with history all around you. The landscape, mountains, rivers, dunes, orchards all give you a sense of calm and peace. Summertime is the appropriate season to be there.

After many years of hankering I finally made it to Baltistan, which turned out to be as beautiful as one had heard. Why did it take so many years? The lack of "decent" accommodation was the impediment. Well Serena has taken care of that and rather well too! The Shigar Fort Residence is a heritage property that has been thoughtfully... More

Unbelievably marvelous. Must visit and spend 2-3 days in the old fort to have a totally once in a lifetime experience. Beautifully renovated and maintained by Serena. Extraordinarily hospitable staff and great local cuisine.

The Historical Shigar Fort Residence is a magical place to stay. There is much to see and do in Baltistan and the Skardu area of the Karakoram, and the management and staff are quite helpful arranging transportation and local tours. For hospitality, the Shigar Fort can't be beat. It is a quiet haven, with clean, cozy rooms full of carved... More

Don't have the words to describe this awesome sanctuary in between the mountains. Excellent services, friendly staff, always willing to help. Nearby attractions include a half day trek on Thoksikar hill, which shows the whole of Khaplu valley from the top. Apricot and cherry in abundance. Do try the local cuisine, the best available at Shigar fort.

Reviews regarding Shigar Fort Residence on TripAdvisor were the reason I selected this place to stay for 2-3 days in Skardu. I was amazed with the level of service and how they have maintained this old fort (as hotel). Hotel is about an hour away from skardu town/airport. Free shuttle survice was provided by hotel. Shigar is the main attraction... More

I stayed three nights in 380 years old Fong Khar built on a big rock, its an incredible historical place which is nicely preserved. You can feel the centuries old living experience in modern style. If you are lucky to find the rooms inside the fort, you would never forget those nights. If you visit Baltistan, do plan to experience... More
