We arrived with very few expectations and were so pleasantly surprised with the setting, accomadation, staff, food and hospitality. The beach in front of the resort has some great swimming, better than all the other lodges on the island. We dived and fished with the recommended dive centre Bid Blu and only have good things to say. It was really... More

We stayed here for 5 nights as part of a 10 day surprise trip organised by my wonderful husband and what a surprise it was. Upon arrival on a Mafia Island and then traveling along an extremely bumpy dirt road and through a very rustic village I was hedging my bets about the accommodation we would find awaiting us. Well... We came to this hotel at the end of our safari to relax and just loved it thanks to our lovely hostess Maura and the whole Butiama team. We went out with the boat to see whale sharks with two of the staff. It was the beginning of the season and it was very hard to spot one, but they... More

We stayed at Big Blu - different site, but same owners - for 5 days, and had a great time. The bungalows were perfect - cute, simple, clean - and the food was very good. Everyone on staff was super nice and helpful. We'd recommend it.

Stayed at Butiama Beach the weekend of March 21. Unfortunately, was only there for 2 nights as she had to return to Mwanza to work at Bugando. Entire place is a delight and, to the extent its possible, the staff makes it even better. Perfect place to unwind and disconnect from wireless/tv/internet. Beautiful beach is 100 feet away and the... More

We spent 4 nights at Butiama mid March and were blown away with the service. It would be safe to say that it superseded our expectations. What we loved most of all was how few other tourists there were!! The rooms were simplistic yet stunning and the beach was beautiful and well maintained, great for long walks with no body... More

We stayed 2 weeks at Butiama Beach, after spending 8 days climbing Kilimanjaro and 5 days on safari, and loved it. The chalets are roomy, well thought out, extremely clean and well maintained. Each chalet has a large private terrace, with a couch, table/chairs and hammock. They have planned and built the chalets to provide a sense of privacy with... More

Butiama Beach was a delight and our thanks Ellie at Exoert Africa for recommending it to us. It really is a wonderfully relaxing lodge, the perfect place to chill out before returning to real life back in the UK. The whole place is delightful. Very laid back but all kept in good order and runs like clockwork. Maura and Moez... More
