You are 2 km from the border from Rwanda into Congo, and not far from the hills where the gorillas live. You may not expect to find a good hotel here, but the Lake Kivu Serena is a pleasant surprise. The setting is superb, on a beach you may not expect in the middle of Africa and looking out on... More

This is probably one of the best hotels in the country. Great clean rooms, the best breakfast buffet ever, friendly staff and a nice pool and beach area. Not cheap though. Only 2 km from the Congo border, but there's no need to worry about that, as you can walk to the border without any problems.

We stayed one night enroute to our gorilla trek and were very pleased with the accommodation. The location is lovely overlooking the lake and we had good service in all the restaurants. Duncan, the Manager was very attentive and helpful and the food was good. Wifi in the rooms was sporadic although the public areas were much better. Would definitely... More

I've taken some time before writing this review. Let me start by saying that the location is lovely, with a beautiful view over Lake Kivu, a private beach area, and a short walk to the border with Goma if you so desire. The management is also excellent. Duncan, the manager while we were there, in particular made every effort to... More

This had a good location on Lake Kivu with a beach and a swimming pool. I recommend checking to make sure your AC is functional before unpacking, and ordering off the menu for dinner instead of doing the buffet (we were not aware there was ala carte dinner). Duncan is an excellent manager and we were happy with his help.... More

We were a large group of 50 judges from Lagos. The hotel is set on a serene lakeside at Gisenyi. Rooms are very comfy. I was given a one bedroom suite. Food was good. There was no restaurant nearby. We had a wonderful buffet dinner with a live band to entertain us at end of retreat. There is a breathtaking... More

This is a beautiful hotel, and a site for core eyes after a tring road journey from Uganda. It may be a 'rebradning' of a 1980's hotel, but that does not matter. The hotel is serenely situated by the lake, whose waters lap just at the end of the lawn. We booked a normal room, I think, but instead we... More

After several exhausting days in the field, I stayed 1 night at the Serena. I really enjoyed it: very nice hotel, big luxurious room, nice big bathroom, delicious food, very nice staff. A true five star hotel, something I had not expected in Gisenyi. I would certainly recommend this hotel to everyone.

I stayed at the Serena for two nights in November 2013 as part of a large party of guests. Although I was unable to get a single room as other rooms were taken, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay. The views, relaxation and absolute serenity of the area are second to none. The hotel staff are very helpful. Your room is... More

We stayed one night at Serena Lake Kivu after some Gorilla trekking and a completely exhausting drive back and forth to Kinunu coffee farm 45 km from Gisenyi just by the lake. You can go there by boat and thats the option you want to choose. The road was hell and the drive took 2,5 hours!!! Friendly staff. A decent... More
