The pool was beautiful, apartment comfortable and beaches gorgeous! Staff was very accommodating. They provided an activities director who keep the kids busy and assistance booking our dive and snorkeling trip.

Royal Reserve is ideally situated right on the beach, far enough away from Matwepa for it to be peaceful. There are two excellent pools. Food is ok but our rooms were a bit mouldy and dank. I would rate this place better were it not for the completely obnoxious beach boys who seem to believe they have a right to... More

We have visited Royal Reserve many times. It has been passing through difficult times but staff always continue to smile. There have been many changes but the resort still appeals. We went on safari organised by Kenyan Smiles and booked before we went. We also enjoyed a day deep sea fishing. There are plans for some upgrading so we look... More

Nice and clean, relaxing. Two pools are great, apartments are big and well equipped. The restaurant is overpriced and there is not so many options nearby. People working there are nice. The beach is average.

Although a lurching 3 Kms off the main road north of Mombasa this idyllic resort is not to be missed when looking for an African holiday. Clean, comfortable and well furnished apartments, two swimming pools, access to the uncrowded beach behind the reef (and not bothered by vendors) this surely cannot be bettered for a holiday in the sun. On-site... More

Like most of the hotels along the sea north of Mombasa, this one is in decline from prior days of glory. But having stayed there for 4 nights, I found it grew on me. The place is really on a secluded beach (beautiful, but non-swim-able as are all the beaches in this area). With about 47 units and about 20%... More

August 2013 - This was the second time we had stayed at The Royal. Yes it could do with a lick of paint, but in all this is a lovely hotel. The staff are friendly and make you feel really welcome. The size of the hotel is just right, taking our kids with us (aged 6, 8 &9) we felt... More

A nice colonial style hotel in need of refurbishment 3 star at present .Comfortable apartments with all basic facilities .nice pool .Average restaurant decent bar snacks .its biggest down fall is its location with only two other nearby hotels and restaurants which means taxi or organized tour to visit mombassa attractions !supermarkets etc ?beach boys a nuisance but harmless .

We spent 5 days at this resort with little children and overall were quite happy with the resort. The seafood restaurant was unfortunately closed, so we only had the main restaurant. There was also so few people they didnät bother with the buffet, sot the menu came familiar quite quickly. The food was good, though, and the pricing what You... More

We stayed at the Royal Reserve in October 2013 and loved it. October is a good time to go in terms of weather with plenty of sun, not much rain and not yet the high heat of full summer. We were involved in some work with a local school and it made a perfect base for both this and a... More
