This hotel needs to be renovated. It has a good location but everything is old and very much used. We only stayed there because we were too tired to look around for other options. The plus was good service, a good internet connection in the lobby and a quiet room with a terrace offering nice views.

No elevator. The rooms have glass walls looking into them from the hallway. Great privacy planning there. The tattered curtains, which look to be 50 years old are of little use and they don’t work anyway. Not much works in this country. There is light coming into your room all night. There are large windows on the other side of... More

I was very happy with my stay at this hotel, after mixed experiences in Bahir Dar. I arrived with no previous booking and was assigned a huge room with an enormous balcony overlooking the town and the castle enclosure. Being so near the town centre, the hotel is not a quiet retreat, but I didn't mind the chanting from the... More

We were upgrade to a suite which was nice as it had a small balcony. The room was a decent size and the beds were comfortable. The bathroom however is very small and the water pressure was terrible - not what you want after trekking in the mountains for 3 days. There is no AC and it's in town so... More

Stayed a night here. The location is great but the hotel is not. We exchanged many emails before our visit and were assured that they would collect us from Gondar airport. We arrived and none was there so we took a taxi which they wouldn't reimburse us for. We also had to pay for transport back to the airport when... More

Too dated, rooms way to hot & poorly ventilated, thin walls, loud dogs barking overnight, boring menu, etc. Good location if you must go out. The shower floor was so black with mold, the cleaning lady gave up & we switched rooms, to find another poorly maintained bathroom. Please update! 4 Star??? By whose standards I wonder. 2 nights here... More

The 3 to 4 hour drive to Gondar from Bahir Dar is exciting, beautiful and tiring. Gondar, Ethiopia's fourth largest city, is in the mountains to the north of Lake Tana, source of the Bue Nile. Our reservation at Taye Belay Hotel was for two nights. We had left a disappointing overnighter at Bahir Dar – the international standard hotel... More

The Taye hotel is set one road away from the center of Gondar city and within walking distance to the Gondar castles. It is thus away from the bustle and dust of town, with a view of the town. However, it's not quiet due to the continuous droning from a nearby Church or continuous celebrations in town. There are a... More

Only spent one night there on way to simien mountains. The hotel had good staff clean room was average and shower very poor. The restaurant had a buffet which had a good variety of food. Wifi poor only ok near reception and patchy as usual in Ethiopia.

The hotel is not lux by any means, but definitely comfortable considering where you are. The hotel is pretty centrally located near the Gondar Castle and there are a few restaurants within walking distance to the hotel as well as a few shops and such in the ground level. We had taken a car from Bahir Dar and the driver... More
