It's hard not to have a memorable experience when staying in the top of a tree overlooking an erupting volcano, and Banyan Castle doesn't disappoint. The guesthouse at Banyan Castle is beautifully constructed, and the location a short walk from the foot of Mount Yasur is hard to beat. The facilities are what you expect from a village bungalow -... I stayed in Banyan Castle just the las two days before leaving the country. I was traveling on my own in Tanna for a week and of course my main purpose was to visit the volcano but I also wanted to discover the local life so I stayed first in a local family house. When I arrived to Banyan Castle... More

Stayed at Banyan Castle for 3 nights in May 2014 with a friend Picked up from the airport on time and as arranged. John, Linda and the family at Banyan castle are the perfect hosts. Living in a treehouse directly under Mt Yasur, brushing your teeth on the balcony watching the glow and hearing the rumbling, a once in a... More

I came to Tanna for a three day visit in late June in 2013 after a week on the island Santo. I was picked up from the airport as agreed on via e-mail. And what an amazing stay! Linda and John are the most friendly and smiling hosts I've ever met. Nobody else was at the place the three days... More

When I went to Vanuatu I wanted a proper island adventure, and although I had a good time in Port Villa and on Santo I didn't really find what I was looking for until I got to Tana. We got picked up from the airport in a truck and rode in the back along the washed out dirt roads over... More

We went expecting a cool treehouse and a cool trip up a volcano, but what we got was so much more...John & lynda are honestly some of the most loving, welcoming and sweet-hearted people I have ever met. Being welcomed into their accomodation felt like a homestay and was my favourite experience in Vanuatu. The treehouse is one of the... More

We were on a tour that was organised by Joseph from Vanuatu Discovery in Port Vila. We were picked up by John our Tour Guide at Tanna Airport. We drove through their local village picking up fresh fruit & vegetables for lunch. We arrived at Banyan Castle and was shown our tree house which sat about 8 metres of the... More

Chartering a 6 seater cessna and flying over the vanuatu islands with transfers included the 2hr trip in the back of a hilux on unsealed roads, thru water and over volcanic ash is the start of your adventure. We stopped in the local villages and capital, as part of the local chores having the opportunity to chat to inquisitive kids... More

from my experience on tripadvisor there seems to be three main groups of people who review. rival operators (usually with 1 review and poor spelling!) who love to trash-talk and down-rate. then there's the run-of-the-mill tourist who expects cleanliness, impeccable customer service and to be the centre of attention while they spend their hard earned dollars on their 'holiday' and... Apart from one admittedly nice treehouse none of the bungalows has a view on the volcano. The rooms are small and cramped. I am used to very basic accomodation but here hygiene is an issue, bed sheets and towels are not cleaned and just handed over to the next guests- in front of our eyes... But it got worse! Never...
