This was the perfect way to relax as soon as arriving in Tonga. Absolute silence apart from lapping water. My partner and I stayed here for 3 nights in the treehouse fale which was perfect. This is the only accommodation on the island which only allows a maximum of 8 at one time. As it is a backpackers you need... More

I stayed at Mafana for 10 days and had an amazing time. I was looking to disconnect from the world and stay on an island and found exactly what I was looking for. Daily bone-fires, coconuts, sun, beach, hammocks, relaxing. Behan is a great host, making sure you have all you need! I stayed in a Beach Tree Fale, which... More

One of the most memorable places on my round-the-world tour. I was travelling with two friends and we had the whole Island for ourselves. I did a last minute booking, but was still provided a very comprehensive info package about the island on email. Upon arriving to Neifau the staff (Beth) was very helpful in arranging everything we needed for... More

You ll be welcome by Behan, a fantastic and funny guy! What a great moment we had in his Fale on the trees! Very clean, well done, Private Rainwater shower and fantastic view! Just chill on the little beach listening to the waves on the reef, or go for a great Kayaking. To snorkel better ask Behan to take you... More

Two beachfront fales at opposite ends of the beach give you excellent privacy. They are built from bamboo and are set up on stilts to allow for cooling ocean breezes and views of the ocean. Rainwater showers are located underneath each fale and are great after a swim in the sea. We truly relaxed while we stayed here and spent... More

We had two nights here with Behan been a great host. Definitely rustic, very clean kitchen and fales, awesome experience basically camping on a small island! Unfortunately with the tsunamis that Tonga have had over the years, the coral isn't that great but the water was sooo warm and lovely! Enough to do if you like snorkelling, kayaking, eating coconuts... More

We had a great time during our 3 days at Mafana Island backpackers. Beautiful idyllic beach with max of only 8 people on the island at one time (we were very lucky with our company). While it's not a luxury resort, it may be the best value for money in Vava'u for budget traveler to experience natural beauty of Tonga,... More

I live on the main island of Vava'u and small though it is every now and you need to take a time out and replenish the batteries and just chill out. This is usually in the quieter season and a few friends head for Mafana Island. Here you do not have to get out of bed if you don't feel... More

Awesome place to stay to get away from it all, Behan made us feel really welcome and nothing was ever too much trouble for him. Everything was set up so even though it was basic, you have everything there. The fales were beautiful.

Had a great time here…… 3 nights was not enough!!! Absolutely beautiful part of the world. Not the sort of place to go if you demand a hot shower as there is no electricity but it has all you need and more. Our only requirement/difficulty was keeping the esky full with ice which wasn’t difficult…. Just meant we had to... More
