Make no errors, this hotel is as basic as it gets. It is miles from anywhere so running such an establishment in such a harsh environment is an achievement in itself. The staff are extremely willing and helpful. The rooms very rudimentary and freezing. Need new curtains as when we stayed, made from just a piece of hessian, one with... More

Yes - this is not a Marriott in Hawaii. The hotel is very beautiful, the people are friendly, service is good. We were staying here all alone so I don't know if there are a lot of other hotel options around for non backpackers. But I would stay here again and in winter I would even as backpacker consider staying... More

If you read the reviews, I tend to agree with all of them, which are written from individuals points of view. It really does boil down to you and what you like The position and architecture are both good, and the idea of making everything of stone is interesting. There is little in the way of heating, so in the... More

Having read previous reviews it appears we were following the same track. After 4 hours electricity at our previous hotel, 24 hours was a luxury. However when we arrived we found that the hotel was in the state of a significant building renovation for which we received a full apology. We arrived in the afternoon and were advised it would... It was fine to stay in this hotel. We had a big room with nice views at the village and the ruins of the old town. There is a difference in the quality of the rooms. But we were lucky to receive a nice room in every Tayka hotel we stayed, thanks to our guide Herlàn from Hidalgo Tours.Food was... More

After staying in the Tayka del Desierto the night before, we expected a similar venue. It is similar in terms of the architecture, but not with regards to service, friendliness and cleanliness. As somebody said below: The hotel is made of natural stone, even the bathroom. It's not easy to keep clean and the shower was so unappealing that I... More

Come on some of you reviewers - get real! This hotel may be near a village but think how far that village is from virtually everywhere. And consider the logistical difficulties of catering there and of using local staff (which they do) whose norms may be very different from those in, say, Europe. We liked it here: the accommodation was... More

We came to this hotel after staying in a very similar hotel in the desert. When staying in the desert, I could understand that the rooms were freezing cold, that there was not warm water in the shower all day long etc. But this hotel is not located far from everything, it's actually next to a village and I therefore... Basic, rustic and Eco, charming. Some hot water is available from solar panels in afternoon/evening so shower at this time, if not expect a freezing one in morning. Our room was reasonably warm until late evening, we stayed during temperatures well below freezing (-15C or less) but we had breakfast / dinner in layers of clothes but once the patio... More
