The Lodge at the Ancient City is definitely one of the better hotels in the Masvingo area. I stayed here on business for two nights in May and had a pleasant stay. At the time, we were the only guests and this make our stay even more peaceful. The lodge is set deep within the countryside just outside of Masvingo.... More

The hotel is modelled around the great zimbabwe theme, and the execution is impressive. Rooms are spacious, well designed and appointed. The restaurant was however a major letdown., the menu is overpriced and food bland. The establishment needs to invest in a more capable chef. I would strongly recommend this to anyone seeking an authentic zimbabwean theme in a serene... More

The lodges are excellent with really comfy double beds and excellent bathrooms, the whole complex reflects the architecture of Great Zimbabwe across the valley. The pool was closed for maintenance on our visit. The catering was poor compared to other places in Zim we had eaten, a T-bone steak was served without a t-bone in it and turned out to... More

This is a lovely lodge. It has only 20 chalets so is perfect if you like a quieter place to stay. The chalets are beautifully decorated, spacious and comfortable. The mosaic on the floor is fantastic and the decorations superb - the stone work around the whole lodge is designed to look like a small-scale Great Zimbabwe. It is a... More

The Lodge at the Ancient City was undoubtedly designed and built with love and attention to detail. It is a very attractive venue, well situated and cleverly designed to mimic the nearby ruins. The rooms are massive and comfortable but do require a bit of TLC. The staff are very friendly and try hard. My only gripe is about the... More

Well well--seems my trip to Masvingo has unearthed a bonus, and what a bonus! This places rocks! Hidden away down a long dusty road behind the main road to the lake dam wall lies this gem. Id noticed it on here before, but the report really doesn't do it justice, neither do the photos. Its by far and away the... More

we stayed here last week for 2 nights as part of our trip around zimbabwe. Its gorgeous. the lodges blend into the surrounding landscape and have lovely high thatched ceilings and baths as well as showers. Also there are proper double beds- the only ones we found in the whole of Zimbabwe, and there's a pool with a great view... More

An amazing set-up taking advantage of the hills and rocks. Rooms are quite large and most beautifully decorated. The main building with bar and restaurant is amazing and from the terrace you can see Great Zimbabwe in the horizon. A very big shame though: food is quite average (and this is optimistic) and they do not know what a wine... More

We lunched at this Lodge ahead of a trip to the ruins. A previous reviewer said it was an '' Indiana Jones experience ''and they were not wrong-great ambience and outstanding views over the ruins. Food and service excellent and pricing very reasonable. If you want a decent lunch in good surroundings go here NOT the Hotel nearer the ruins... More

We stayed at the Lodge for one night while visiting the area in July. It really does feel like being in an Indiana Jones film. In a good way. The architecture has truly captured the mystery and appeal of the area. The room was magnificent in scale - with huge wood double doors opening to the balcony. Service was friendly... More
