The park is absolutely wonderful for close encounters with game of all types. You get blasé about being very close to impala, nyala, baboons, giraffes, even rhino and elephant. We didn't see any cats on our visit, apparently as it was so dry. Hilltop is a great base, very central and with a good range of facilities. We had a... More

Had a very disappointing experience at Hilltop Camp, Hluhluwe Park . We travelled halfway around the world and spent a lot of money to stay at Hilltop with the express purpose of enjoying their early/late guided game drives and walks. On arrival we were horrified to be informed that all 6 options for the next 2 days had already been... More

We stayed in one of the 5 bed lodges for three nights. Our expectations were quite low having read some of the lukewarm comments on Tripadvisor. We were, however, very pleasantly surprised when we arrived. The lodge was great - it had a large balcony, our own BBQ, two bathrooms, and two very comfortable rooms. They also allowed us to... More

Big top price room but a dated bathroom. Some small game in the camp, antelopes, vervet monkeys & guinea fowls. Not to mention the performing kitchen staff on brai night. Twin room not doubles. Happy friendly staff.

We stayed in the 2bed Rondavals for 3 nights. Everything was quite clean and neat, even the communal bathrooms. I just had a bit of a problem with one of the showers (couldn't get the water temperature right) and there was one day when the men did not have any hot water in their bathrooms. We also went on the... More

We entered the Reserve, which we know ExTREMELY well, at Memorial Gate at the Hluhluwe end of the HIP. The tarmac road surface is in an APPALLINGLY potholed condition and you need to drive with EXTREME caution! Generally - follow the tracks that have been made off road surface and you will miss most of the really bad ones! In... More

A great place to come into at the end if a long day of safari. Excellent views out the back where you can have a drink. Fun restaurant and bar with knowledgable staff on the food, including park game that is on the menu. Huts are clean and comfortable enough. The camp set up and atmosphere doesn't detract from the... Just wanted to make a suggestion if you aren't part of an organized tour. Hilltop camp is very nice, but if you have a car and are able to pick a slightly less busy destination, there is a nicer option in the same park group: we much preferred Mpila camp which was low-key, similar price for self-catering, and also well-run,... The Hilltop is old and need to be upgraded. Location is fine but the bungalows are old and very smelly. Red ants came falling out of the roof and the reception laughed when we noticed it. The bungalows are very smelly and need to be upgraded. Don't go there and find another lodge around Hluhluwe. The buffet was oke but... More

Great location. Loved the fact it was close to Durban - took less than 2hrs from the airport. Liked the dirt roads and local feel. Accommodation could have been better, but it is fairly remote. all in all, great.
