New owners didn't do anything different for the hotel. Rooms are totally run down, toilet dosen't flash and leaking sink. The only thing that the new owners change is the price, now is a premium price compared with other hotels in Venezuela. The premises are also run down, the pool is missing around 10 inches of water. To bad, this was a very nice hotel previously in a very nice location.

This hotel sits on a Marina with a pleasant view of luxury boats. This is however the only positive thing going for this hotel. The grounds are ok but you have to walk or travel by golf carts to get rot your room. The rooms are old and not very modern in any respect. After check in you have to wait a very long time to get your luggage and yourself transported to your room. Pool area is not well maintained as is many other areas. This hotel is unimpressive and unattractive from the entrance and lobby area. The lobby is hot and stuffy and the whole atmosphere at this hotel leaves much to be desired. Nothing here is done in a professional or efficient manner. The staff appeared nonchalant and not really happy to be there. There is no feeling of being welcomed and your first instinct is to turn around and leave. The food especially the buffet was always cold and really not pleasing to the eyes. The taste was average . An absolute No No for wheelchair guest or anybody with any kind of disability. Will not recommend.…

Being a hotel own by the goverment, i would've thought it have all the supplements and better service since to them every is great in the country... Had to call like 4 times to request for more paper toilet. Every time the male room service, the maids would not leave clean towels... Electric service suck, and they don't have power plant... It rained very hard, and when i got to the room, there was a big leak on the ceiling... 25% of the bedroom was wet... They only good thing is the location, since the event was walking distance from the hotel... And besides, there are not a lot of options to choose from....

I decided to stay with my family in this hotel because a relative of my wife suggested the place. I knew that this hotel is in Venezuelan’s government hand and as far as I know nothing that is managed by the Venezuelan government work. I was prepared for surprises but not in this magnitude. When we arrive the first thing that I noticed was that the maintenance of the place is very poor, the main entrance is deteriorated, this place used to be the best hotel in the area 15 years ago. Then we noticed that there wasn’t air conditioning in the lobby (really bad, this area is very hot). When we were checking in the clerk in the reception said that our room was ready (a junior suite), but when we asked for wifi code (something that is by default everywhere else) we were informed that there isn’t wifi in the building were our room was located. We decided to change room and take a room in a building close to the reception where there was wifi, but they say that there wasn’t any junior suite in these building and no refrigerator in the room. Ok, we took and standard room with wifi at least. Wait there is another problem they said, the machine that makes the room keys doesn’t work and every time that you need to go your room you have to walk to reception and ask the bell boy to go and open your door. The next day I decided to go to the gym, well surprise according to the lady that works in the gym the air conditioning systems had two weeks under maintenance, the temperature was around 45°C. I asked for towels and the lady looked at my like if I was joking, the machine including the thread mills are about 20 years old, I haven’t seen something like that in years. Nets day I had time to go to the pool with mi kids. This hotel pool was the best attraction of the hotel years ago. We noticed that the water was that clear in some areas of the pool then I realise that the circulation system wasn’t working in this areas. I asked one of the guars about that and he said that part of the treatment system didn’t work because the pumps were damaged and they were waiting for spares, but don’t worry we are adding extra Clorox in bars, but don’t tough the bars. The next day was weekend already and the pool bar was open. I noticed that there was a water spill going to the pool when I got close I realize that the drainage coming from the pool bar was plugged and the sewage overflow was going to the pool. I only want to add that, there wasn’t toiled paper in the washroom, they put few napkin instead every time they clean the room. The breakfast was included but, there wasn’t sugar, milk, cereal, and most of the time eggs. The safety box of my room was broken, the several roof shingles of the main building and other building were broken and every time that rained (which in pretty common in July) the ceiling leak for several hours. The majority of the staff doesn’t have good manner or at least they seem to be prepared to service people in a hotel. Please close and demolish this place.…

Absolutely overpriced for the cheap hotel it is. It used to be one of the best before it was expropiated. Staff is rude to say the least. Just go somewhere else. Breakfast was cold. Pool area was very neglected.

The rooms were not clean. Hair all over the floors, mold inside the bathroom fan, and seemed like we always had to ask for more towels. The wifi is non-existent even in the lobby area and could use it one day out of 21 on the balcony (get a room closest to lobby). Music by the pool was loud - could not relax if I was able to get a lounge to lay on. Unless you go down by 9 am you are out of luck if you want to lounge by the pool. Maids were nice - can't say the same for the waitresses in the coffee shop or outside pool area gazebo. If I were with my boyfriend they were all great to him. The times I was alone -they were rude and disrespectful. Even got messages from one on Facebook when I returned spewing vile comments about my boyfriend.

I spent many days and nights at this Hotel during the 2002-2005 and while assigned to Venezuela for work. I remember that the hotel was usually full with families. The pool was packed and the service (although it was never a 5 star hotel) was good. The hotel was very good from all perspectives... good food, good access to fine restaurants and a golf course next to it. This last trip I had to book a room at this hotel in a hurry. I was requested to visit a customer in Puerto La Cruz in a short notice. I ended booking a room here for three nights. The hotel is at its best, a motel now. Same paint, colors and furniture from 10 years ago. Aging facilities that need repair and maintenance and an ambient of lack of interest from management. The Golf course? Yes... a cow pasture now that some people there were trying to use as golf range… such a bad finale for such nice facilities with great potential.…

Just stayed in this hotel for one night, for office party. - Old building, dark, lamp is not functions, water shower flowing very small. - No towel when entering the room, called front desk, and they said it is normal, they reply will provide "immediately". Waiting for 30 minutes, called again the front desk, replied the same answer and ask us to be patient. Continue waiting until very late (around 7pm), nobody came. Fortunately a service lady passed by and carry some towels; requested for 4 towel, the lady insist that two towels is enough. Explained that we are staying with kids, need 4 towels, the lady still insist that 4 towels are really too much for us....? Somehow we got towels; about to take shower and realised no soap is provided. Call again the front desk, and they said it is normal, they reply will provide "immediately". Waiting for 30 minutes, called again the front desk, replied the same answer and ask us to be patient.... Until next morning the soap NEVER arrived. -Avoid this hotel at any cost.…

It is with a heavy heart that I write this and read the reviews. The Maremares was my second home from its opening until recently. (Venezuela was my second home since 1988). I always felt safe and comfortable even as a female staying there alone. Things worked; it was beautiful. It was a happy place. I knew all the staff and considered most of them friends, like "C" and "S" and K-CAO. It was the place to stay in Puerto La Cruz. That being said, things change. The hotel refused to give me a reservation unless a Venezuelan company sponsored me. Luckily I had Venezuelan friends. Then the hotel refused my reservation until I paid two nights in advance, which my Venezuelan friends took care of too. I had no problem with the furniture becoming old. I did have a problem with the safe being broken; no security, and being treated as a "dumb gringa" by staff who didn't know me or who asked me for my passport number when buying a bottled water, which I refused to do in Spanish. It was the only time I cried because I was glad to leave and sad how things change. My experience had been up to that point was to cry becausing I was leaving a place and friends that I loved. Now I cry when I think how things used to be, but no more. "Woman Del Callao" can't go to her second home anymore.…

I have stayed here several times over the last two years and the service has become worse and worse. Some of the lows on this trip include: a lighter stolen from my room, failing to iron clothes left on Tuesday morning in time for a Friday morning meeting, and failing to return clothes marked for Express laundry service until two days later - and insisting that I pay because the service was done, albeit late. This is the last time I stay here.
