The hotel was clean and the rooms are OK. The staff however seemed not to like their job. They could hardly great you and give the geust the usual hospitality you could expect. The restaurant was closed on monday. That was good because obn Tuesday the restaurant uses a ventilation which was oeprated by a very noisy engine. You could... More

Stayed here for 2 nights in November 2013 as part of a two week trip to Uruguay from Australia. This hotel is situated adjacent to a nice park above the Rambla and is within walking distance of shops and restaurants. Upon arrival we were given an upstairs room, but it was obvious it had previously been used by smokers. After... More

Management response:

Thank you very much for writing about our hotel. We are pleased to hear that both our restaurant and breakfast were of your fulfillment. In other order, we are sorry to hear about the inconvenience that, for reasons beyond our control, occurred in the parking area. We will consider your suggestions of marking this area. Beyond all, we hope you... More

The first double room we were shown only had the bathroom light and one bedside light working. the second room had the entrance light working as well, also had two single beds. We were on honeymoon, so not perfect. Went back to reception to explain this and was told hte maid would put the beds togther to make a double.... More

Fray Bentos is not a tourist destination, but a small quiet town. I have stayed at the hotel twice, once in November 2010 and other time in November 2011. I can agree with all said about the hotel here, it's clean and offers the basic services, but nothing more. The breakfast was quite different each time, but not very good... More

I agree with most of the previous comments. The main problem is it is overpriced at $90USD for a std double and $105 for the superior room. But, let's face it, they can get away with it. It does seem strange as these are near the prices we paid in Montevideo for a lot better place and service. For example,... More

decent breakfast, very clean hotel, friendly staff but in no rush to help, nice cooling pool in the summer heat - and right across the road from the gorgeous Rio Negro- but far too pricey at 100 US dollars a night for a simple room with 2 singe beds

Staff was extremely helpful in arranging a guided tour in English at the excellent El Anglo museum. (And I just asked the to please check if there were any guided tours in English.) This hotel is under the same management as Gran Hotel Brisas del Hum in Mercedes, so you get the same excellent rooms and beds. On the negative... More

The hotel is wonderfully located for enjoying the waterfront, the sunsets. Strongly recommended: visiting the former Anglo meat-packing plant (now a museum) and taking the panoramic road to Las Cañas. The town is not a place for sophisticated living but for relaxation. You will feel welcome at all times. Also, while visiting Fray Bentos we never felt the slightest concern... More

After a cockroach experience in my last hotel, chose the Gran Hotel for a bit of comfort. Standard travelling salesman hotel: clean, decent room and bathroom, helpful staff, rubbish breakfast. All this would be fine, but for $70 a night? This is Fray Bentos after all. It is just too expensive, but I was too much of a chicken to... More

The hotel is in a pleasant location next to a nice park built on the steep banks of the Rio Uruguay. It is a 5 minute walk to the central plaza. Fray Bentos has very limited accomodation - only a couple of seedy or old and run-down hotels near the Plaza that I know of. The hotel is modern but... More
