It was lovely to be met at the airport with a garland of flowers. Akapu is on the edge of town overlooking the sea and right by the museum. The accommodation is clean but spartan self contained bungalows with a communal kitchen / dining room with seating area with WiFi. The owners offer their spare 4WD to rent for a... More

Based on reviews we read and Akapu's website, we were expecting a fairly decent room -- nothing fancy but not bottom-level. we stayed for a week and loved Rapa Nui, despite the Akapu experience. PRO: Location was fine although admittedly it was a 15-minute walk from town. (Bring a headlamp or flashlight if you're planning to walk back at night.... More

The world fades away when you're in Rapa Nui. As others have noted, Akapu is very close to the coast, a 15 or 20-minute walk from Hanga Roa though some people took taxis or rented bicycles. It's surrounded by trees, and you'll quickly get to know the friendly family that owns it as well as the other guests. To me,... More

Located Minutes outside of Rapa Nui’s not sooo vibrating Capital Hanga Roa, Akapu offers analogous standards of most other Cabanas we’ve seen on Isla de Pascua. Very basic, but generally cosy this accommodation reflects the local image. Try to get first cabana in row as there is a second window, more space and a small terrace. Bathroom was neither fully... We stayed at the Hostal Cabanas Akapu for 3 nights in January and had a great time - it was a good choice and we were happy with the value we received. Pros: We could see a moai, the ocean and gorgeous sunsets from our cabana (#1). The grounds and cabin are surrounded with fruit trees and flowering bushes (hibiscus,... More

We could see a moia and beautiful sunsets from cabana #2 -- what else do you need? Pick this place for a relaxing stay, away from the city. It'll leave you with a bit of a walk to the center of Hanga Roa, but it's a beautiful journey past several moia and it's likely you'll be guided by one or... More

We had a great time on Easter Island. We were happy to be there during Tapati 2008. And the hospitality and wonderful accomodation we experienced at Hostal Akapu made it a perfect trip. The owner L. Barrera is a wonderful host and will do anything to make the best of your trip for you. Vincent from Holland

This Hostel is beautifully situated near the Tehai Moais which means that you every evening you can finish your day with a stroll to the island's best "Sunset view". It's close to the museum and horse stables too. We are an active couple who enjoy walking and riding and this was an excellent base for both activities. (Of course, you... More

We spent seven nights at this pleasant hostel. Our balcony looked to the west, with a view of the ocean and a moai. Located in the Tahai Sector, this is where everyone goes to see the sunset. It was wonderful being able to come home after dinner, relax, and then just walk a few hundred feet to watch the sun... More

We just returned from the Easter Island trip. One of the main reasons of choosing this hotel was the good reviews from Trip Adviser and the proximity to the archeological site. Also, the photos of the property we received from the owner were nice and we received prompt reply on emails. However, it turned out to be the worst choice... More
