Explora is adjacent to a cow paddock which has, not surprisingly, cow manure in abundance! It also has an abundance of flies, thanks to the hot days (regularly 30ºC/86ºF). If building a $2,160 per night "luxury" lodge next to cows defecating is ill considered, the lack of fly screens is appalling, especially given that the air conditioning units in all... More

Easter Island is expensive -- hands down. It's expensive to travel to and everything on island is expensive. SO you might ask yourself, why splurge on a luxury property like Explora? The answer -- the service. If you want to be sure to explore Easter Island and take advantage of all that it has to offer, you'll want the expertise... More

I've been lucky n had always had great experiences at almost all my hotel stays. N I had not written a bad review on trip advisor. Explora unfortunately will be the first. The reason for this is the service that's provided for $1200 per night for solo. Granted the hotel is beautiful in a magnificent setting overlooking the ocean. N... More

This was our first a Explora stay which was followed by Atacama and Patagonia. Of the three lodges, this is more relaxed. A little bit of island time. Our rooms were wonderful although the sir conditioning didn't work. However, we could leave our windows open. Food was delicious; serving staff friendly and accommodating. The guides were friendly and knowledgable. In... More

We have been to Explora lodges in Patagonia and Atacama and are huge fans of the deep, rich travel experience Explora offers. Rapa Nui does not disappoint in carrying on this tradition. First the attention to detail in fitting the lodge into the surrounding environment and honoring the local culture in architecture, cuisine, and excursions is unparalleled. We are hikers,... More

We spent 3 nights at The Explora with 2 full days of excursions. It is an expensive option but we still felt it was good value. The all-inclusive nature of the lodge made our stay relaxing and stress free. From the moment we were greeted at the airport it was nice knowing everything was taken care of (transportation, activities, meals,... More

Beautiful understated hotel that blends in well with the natural environment. All rooms face undulating grass fields and the sea and are very well appointed. The quality of meals and drinks in this all-inclusive resort is high. The breakfast buffet is acceptable but not exceptional. The guides are very knowledgeable and are from Rapa Nui. They offer the visitor a... More

Clearly Explora takes first prize for IPC lodging (the Hotel Hanga Roa remains closed...). The property is outstanding, well situated, a quick 15 minute ride to town by van. The staff are not nearly as service-oriented as in Patagonia (wait staff seem bored; we saw the guest services manager once, on our arrival) and the trekking staff are not as... More
