My wife and i have stayed twice at Gliffaes which provides a comfortable country house hotel experience in attractive grounds in a scenic setting. The food is generally of a high standard with only the odd lapse. There is plenty of space to relax in two lounges and the conservatory. There is also an agreeable bar area. Drinks prices are... more
I have been organising trips with a group of friends to South Wales for more than a decade, initially we stayed in farm cottages, but for the last six years we've stayed at Gliffaes. This hotel truly is a hidden gem, the staff are professional but discrete allowing you to enjoy the hotels open log fires in the sitting room... more
Recently returned from a 2 night mid-week break at the Gliffaes Hotel. We booked the break to celebrate our silver wedding anniversary and it really couldn’t have been better. The hotel is a large country house on the bank of the River Usk, the location is really quite spectacular, also very quiet and remote. We were in room 9, which... more
This hotel is very tranquil and remote, it is not on a main route and the sign could be hard to spot, however our Sat-Nav found it no problem. There are beautiful pathways and walkways right around the grounds and down to the River Usk, I'm not a big walker at all but the scenery is well worth a look.... more
My husband, son and I were lucky enough to spend the most delightful weekend at Gliffaes Hotel recently after having read that the hotel had been awarded 'Best Country House Hotel' in Wales by the Good Food Guide. From the moment we were met at the top of the driveway by a pair of exuberant black Labradors I knew that... more
My wife and I visited the Gliffaes with my parents, we had booked for two nights, but left after one. We arrived at around six pm, showered and changed to come down for dinner. The room was adequate, if not extravagant and we were quite pleased looking forward to dinner. We had left our wallets in the rooms, as all... more
Booked the Gliffaes for 2 nights stay one month in advance, as a break for my wife and I, to allow us to relax, take in the neighbouring countryside and do a bit of walking. As we travelled there on the Friday afternoon, we were both really looking forward to it, especially as our son and his wife had decided... more
We stayed at Gliffaes for 2 nights in July 2008. The description on the website and the positive comments on Trip Advisor all made for a fabulous romantic couple of days. BUT OH DEAR. ROOM 12. We made the reservation some 7 months in advance. Upon arriving you cannot fail to be impressed. A beautiful country house in several acres... more
Partly as response to this post and to other complaints about noise from below room 12 we had a sound proof celing put in the room below in January 2009. I am please to say that the problem has now been cured and I have not had another complaint since.
A small group of us just spent 6 days at the Gliffaes. To say it was wonderful would be an understandment. From the gorgeous grounds to explore complete with river, hidden paths and tree swing to the fabulous dinners - Gliffaes is an outstanding hotel in South Wales. We booked the hotel 6 months in advance and James Suter could... more
