We popped into Gliffaes a while back and we were so struck by its location that we promised ourselves we'd return one day. It was a while until the opportunity arose, but we are so glad we remembered because our stay was a real pleasure from the moment we arrived until to the moment we left. So why was it... More

Don't stay at Gliffaes if all you're looking for is the glamour of a modern spa or the anodyne uniformity of so many luxury hotels. You'll hate it. I agree with Ian S - Gliffaes maintains a mid-century, even turn of the century, ethos of country house glamour and charm. But nobody dresses formally for dinner as they must have... More

We have stayed here in the past, and find it a useful place to stay overnight when visiting West Wales on our way from London. The setting is beautiful with the hotel set above the river. There are also some lovely gardens. We have always had one of the luxury river rooms overlooking the terrace, which we would highly recommend... More

As you drive along the long private rd approach you know you are in for a treat. As soon as we entered the building, hanging in the cloaks area were a apir of "fly fishing" waders with boots and gear you'd expect the country gent to wear whilst casting their flies into the Usk below... and indeed they were!! ..... This hotel has a tranquil and appealing setting, lovely gardens with the sight and sounds of the river below. The friendly, attentive yet unobtrusive staff served very good food for our function. We had to tear ourselves away, and have promised ourselves we will come back for an overnight stay before too long.

What a huge disappointment after walking around the beautiful grounds, tea consisted of miniscule salmon, egg, cucumber or tomato sandwiches served from the so called buffet table by a member of staff, scones were dense and glutinous again served by a staff member, tea from a large teapot, sugar knobs which you had to chase around a bowl with a... I was sorry to hear about your bad experience of tea at Gliffaes. You are not the first to mention that you do not like being served from the buffet table and would rather help yourself, like we used to do. We started serving people as we found that a lot of guests were taking cakes and sandwiches and then... More

Afternoon tea has changed at this hotel you used to serve yourself and could get help from staff if you needed it but now all food and beverages are now served to you it takes longer. The sandwiches were not as tasty as they used to be no salt or pepper ? The scones were very nice the cream was... More

This was our 4th or 5th time at Gliffaes over the last 10 years. Little has changed, which is a good thing. The Souter family still firmly in charge of a well run establishment. We had one of the smaller rooms, but the view was excellent, and everything we needed was there, even if we had to take a few... More

A warm and friendly welcome was matched with a superb setting and lunch inside the opened conservatory. Waitress service was first class and our food was delicious. A wander into the very pleasant dining room and view from the outside seating area down to the Usk rounded off an excellent lunchtime visit. We will return!

Having failed to be able to book at short notice at our usual haunt (Llangoed Hall) we were able to find space at Gliffaes and booked a large room facing onto the gardens. The room was fine and reasonably well equipped with a very comfortable bed and decent shower over the bath. Gliffaes' trump card is its extensive garden, the... More
