A quick trip to Wales gave us our first encounter of this quiet retreat. Only one night spent here so hard to give anything but a first impression, but we liked what we experienced. Staff were friendly and helpful with owner making a point of meeting all guests. Nice chap James! Really comfortable bed in lovely room with fabulous view... More

This is a wonderful hotel We have been many times and it is hugely relaxing and peaceful. Friendly staff and last time we were treated to a free upgrade to a room with a river view. It makes for really relaxing break. Food better then ever. Surroundings amazing. Comfy and homely. Do go

We stayed for a weekend break and were delighted with the service and food and the hotel grounds and vista from the terrace are simply stunning Dinner was extremely impressive with a good menu featuring locally sourced ingredients and the wine list had a good selection too. The River Usk flows through the grounds and there is a lovely 'tree... More

The only thing this place has going for it is location. Staff dont seem to know what they are doing and are very poorly structured. In fact so poorly structured it was quite laughable. Food was ok but bread was stale and not worth the money. One of our friends was left waiting and our meals were almost finished when... More

We stayed two nights in this lovely hotel. It has great suroundings and athmosphere. Especially liked the lobby and bar area. The room was also clean and nice. We had dinner at the hotel one night. It was good, and it's nice they try to use local food. Although I feel that at least some dish could have been better.

I stayed here with my husband to celebrate my birthday. On arrival we were shown to our beautiful room, and there was a chilled bottle waiting us as a gift. The food was sublime, as was the wine selection. Service was polite and discreet. Wonderful. We will return.

With views over the river Usk and into the Brecon Beacons, this has to be one of the best located hotels I've ever stayed in. The grounds are impeccably well kept. The staff were faultless in their care and attitude; one of the hotel's practices is being mindful of waste and that was subtly presented everywhere, such as not providing... More

My husband and I booked a double room for the weekend to celebrate our anniversary. Upon arrival we were extremely impressed with the grounds and the secluded location. The room was of a good size, very clean, well equipped and reception were always to hand if you need any extras. The food was absolutely delicious and a there was a... More

I took lunch on the terrace of Gilfaes Country House on one of the hottest days I have experienced in UK. The setting was glorious but I came away extremely concerned with the overall health and safety issues in food preparation which I will mention later. Firstly I would like to address the fact that there maybe training needs for... More

Undoubtedly in beautiful surroundings, a calm & peaceful riverside hotel, far from the noise of traffic. Clearly, this is what they are trading on and what you are paying for (and not an inconsiderable amount). Pros: * Setting. * Reception staff were courteous and helpful, if a little brisk occasionally. * Our room in the cottage was sizeable and well... More
