Surprisingly large room with all necessary facilities. Guest rooms are separate from the pub and set back from the street, so no noise problem. Dinner food was very good. Breakfast was cooked to order -- good quality. The only negative was the twin beds: very narrow (maybe 30") and too soft for my taste.

Took mum and golden retriever here for 3 nights. Mum has mobility problems and apart from the odd step to get to the bar for food we were accommodated really well (walk in shower, ground floor room). Best and most unique thing was the welcome bowl of chicken for the dog every single time we went for food making it... More

Having been on a day trip to Cirencester, we called in for an evening meal. Choice on the menu was good, between us we opted for only the main meal, Lasagne and the jerk rib of beef. Good choice of ales and wine. Food arrived quickly, was hot and delicious. Great place for a very good bar-meal. Will call again.

We were staying in nearby Abergavenny and whilst travelling around we happened upon The Bear at Crickhowell. I would describe this place as a "polite old gentleman" amongst pubs. The style is very traditional and the service is very professional if a little dated. We only had a snack but it was served quickly and everything was tasty. The Bear... More

We booked for Sunday lunch this weekend as had been recommended by friends. On arrival, we walked into the bar and looked for someone to talk to to tell us where to go. Although there was lots of staff busy rushing around, no one spoke to us, acknowledged us or helped us, even though we clearly were a bit lost.... More

Have visited The Bear on numerous occasions when visiting friends in Crickhowell. It is something of an institution, in that no visit is complete in Crickhowell without food at The Bear. It is always busy, whatever time of year we have visited. Food remains consistently good and portions generous. Sunday lunch is a bit of a must, however there are... More

Visiting Crickhowell for the first time, to revisit memories from my husbands' youth I was most impressed by this delightful hotel. Whilst full of old fashion charm,,,the hotel was tastefully refurbished to a high standard. Somehow, they manage to combine quirky uneven floors with beautiful furnishing and a strong wifi signal throughout - and don't start me on the food... More

We booked two nights at the bear hotel as friends were getting married in a nearby country house. Having been to the bear on many occasions before but having never stayed we knew the reception would be flawless and we weren't disappointed. The room was spotlessly clean and roomy. Over looking the main road there was a little road noise... More
