we go to the bear often on the spur of the moment for a bar meal.Always had a good meal, and a good pint. The staff have always been friendly and helpful.Part of night is you dont know who you will see there. No blaring music just conversation with anybody and everybody.Log fires just sets it off.

I stayed here for two nights whilst fishing the Usk, The deal was great value for money and I found the "basic" room anything but basic. Service was warm and friendly and the food was excellent with the bar having a real busy feel to it. I'll definitely be returning.

Superb service from the young guy who checked us in, couldn't have been more helpful with parking, booking dinner and even advising me how to re-charge my car keyless fob. The main restuarant upstairs is great for dinner, really atmospheric. Downstairs is too hectic for breakfast, which was less good. Cheap tinned mushrooms and sugary economy grade juices it seemed... We stayed here last November and though we paid extra for an executive room it was not good. The mattress needed replacing and the bathroom was carpeted which seems really unhygienic especially as there was no mat around the toile. Just not enticing. We ate in the bar and the food was good.

We booked to have Easter Sunday lunch with friends and family at one of our favourite eating places -The Bear in Crickhowell, we have previously stayed here ,had our small wedding reception here and eaten many bar meals here all have been really good including the service. The Bear came highly recommend by several friends and it did not disappoint. The room was very comfortable and stylish, the food surpassed our expectations and the staff were all very friendly and helpful. We will certainly be returning.

My family and I enjoyed a delicious lunch - a mix of good quality traditional fare (calves liver and bacon, etc) mixed with an interesting blackboard meant there was no shortage of choice and all we ate was very good. Dog friendly was also a pleasant surprise.

I celebrated my birthday at the bear inn with several friends from work. I thought the food was fantastic, atmosphere was good and venue very presentable. When coming to pay for our own meals at the end of the evening, a foreign lady was very rude and told us we had to pay all together instead of separate. It was... More

Oh dear The Bear (which we love) let us down. Poor service, overcharged and just lacked spirit. We travelled from London (such is our love) and left saying, we won't be back. We have had brilliant times here...

Lovely old coaching Inn on the A40 in the centre of Crickhowell, with the Black Mountains on one side and the Brecon and Monmouth Canal on the other, together with the River Comfortable bedroom, small bathroom with a tiny shower facility, but all spotless and up together . Bed a little short on length and not king size. Good welcome... More
