My Wife and I stayed three nights in a Superior Room on a Half Board Rate. The room itself was very comfortable but overlooked the courtyard so there was noise from the kitchens both late at night and early morning. It was also very hot and we asked for a fan which was promptly delivered but it had no front cover on... We just had the one night (complete with dog). The room had recently been refurbished (others on the process of being done) to a high standard and was excellent. Nice wide comfortable bed, telly compatible for the size of the room (we weren't cramped for space), dimmer for the main bedroom lights and spacious bathroom. Breakfast was fine and varied,... More

Stayed in The Bear Fir and Sat recently to attend a wedding in Llangattock. Nice place, very helpful and friendly staff and so convenient for Crickhowell town centre which has some lovely real shops ( not chains) Very convenient for Abergavenny by car or for walking in the countryside or along the river. Good selection of pubs and eating places... More

This charming family run hotel may not be the cheapest in the area but offers outstanding facilities and service in the heart of the Brecon Beacons National Park. We had a spacious beautifully decorated double room, enjoyed some wonderful meals especially the full Welsh Breakfast. Thoroughly recommend the Bear. Special mention to the charming Reception Manager Jackie - who could... More

We stay there for 2 nights, between 10 and 12 of September 2014. Everything was excellent, starting from accommodation, service restaurant and food. I recommend this place for people which they like to be into the heart of the country. Cristian Bondoc, 15.09.2014.

We needed to break a trip and the wife chose the bear. Good big room, a bit noisy as it was over the kitchen, and very comfortable. Food was good and served quickly. The flowers in the dining room were great. all in a good experience.

Our starter of bread and olives took 40 mins and only arrived after we complained. Our starter plates had not been cleared away before our main course arrived. We ordered wine with our meal and it arrived just before we had finished our main, the waiter lent over our meal to put the wine on the table and didn't even... More

There is a difference between places that accept dogs and those that make the dog and down owner feel just as welcome. i have a Golden Retriever and stayed here because they advertised as accepting dogs. From the receptionist to the bar staff, they were all very friendly to her. I had room 26 which had a lovely four poster... More

Convivial surroundings complemented by excellent cuisine. The Bear restaurant and bar tables we're full of diners by 8.00pm, a surprising development given this was a Tuesday evening. It's an obvious choice in the small town of Crickhowell, we weren't disappointed.

The hotel is a tastefully preserved old coaching inn which serves as a meeting and dining venue for locals and visitors, as well as being the most charming hotel in Crickhowell. Every aspect of this establishment deserves praise - it is a very friendly local pub (as long as you make allowance for the dry humour of the old boy... More
