We stayed four days last summer and found it to be mind-boggling over-priced for what you get: small rather noisy rooms and a generally snobbish attitude from the owner. The location is beautiful, but if you don't want to spend yet another fortune on dinner (which was fine, quality-wise, we ate at the inn one night), your dining options are... more

I have stayed at Scarista House a number of times during the last 6 years and I have just booked it once again for April 2009. Whilst reviewing a variety of websites I was horrified to read some negative reports. I wanted to provide this review so that other travellers thinking about choosing Scarista House would do so without any... more

A really fantastic place to stay, very expensive but great if you can afford it...the bathroom was falling apart as a result of poor building work, but they are trying to get this fixed and we were shown the room before we had to accept. The owners are really friendly and food exceptional but may be a bit much for... more

A fantastic setting with great views over a wide horizon, and easy access to the beach. We had a great welcome and could not have made things easier. A relaxed feel to the place made it much more like a country-house rather than a hotel. They were more than happy to provide a meal for the baby - unasked -... more

We stayed in Glebe Cottage because my wife & I were travelling with our small dog. It was one of three terraced self-catering properties behind the house. It didn't look like a cottage & we were both extremely disappointed with the standard of the accommodation, to the extent that we left early. First things first - Scarista House itself overlooks... more

We stayed one night at Scarista and were welcomed by Patricia who served us delicious cake and tea on arrival . Our rooms were quiet, comfortable and delightfully individual. We thoroughly enjoyed the menu of freshly prepared soup, homemade breads, local fish, cheese and lemon tart and felt it was very good value. The service was friendly and unpretentious. The... more

We spent a night at Scarista at the beg. of July. We got a warm welcome and enjoyed our complimentary tea/coffee on arrival. However, we were disappointed with our room - quite small, very dark and drab and drawing room also struck us as a little shabby! Food was excellent though would have preferred a choice of main course -... more

Scarista House is a white stone 2 storey Manse renovated many years ago, with accomodation in the house or in out buildings - see the web site for more details. Although we booked more than 6 months in advance , our choice of rooms was limited, so we stayed in the main house on the first floor in the front... more

I can't fathom what there is to quibble with at this truly 5* small hotel. Scotland is blessed with some amazing small house-hotels both in the Islands and mainland; likes of Cromlix House near Dunblane or Roman Camp nr Callander for example. This hotel is right up there and maybe better given the location and real island remote feel it... more
