We had originally booked for one night here on our campervan tour, and I had phoned Adrian to ask if he could take us the night before too, which he did (which was great for us). It certainly is rustic, but the blackhouse is a welcome change from a campervan. We met a few people the next morning who were... More

We stayed in the yurt with our 4 year old son and 7 month old puppy! A wonderful trip to remember. Despite the fact that we had rain on several of the 5 days of our stay it did not detract from a great holiday. The yurt was warm with its wood burning stove, had cooking facilities and cosy futons... More

We arrived at this campsite by bike, and having seen it from across the bay we felt excited, we could see the thatched roofs of the blackhouses and the yurts. This campsite feels very natural and organic, no manicured lawns here! We were the only people actually camping(there was a few others in campervans) so we pretty much had use... More

I stayed at Lickisto for 2 nights in pretty cold and variable weather (snow on the hills on my walks), I just had my one man tent with me so the use of the Blackhouse and its wood burner was brilliant. As was the bread freshly baked by Adrian each day. And the friendliness of John each time we saw... More

Stayed one night wish could have stayed longer. Warm welcome, guided tour and offer of homemade bread and fresh eggs. Reading other reviews about facilities, there was only three parties staying at time of our visit. Only my partner and I in the bunkhouse and felt very at home with log fire and settees. Lots of interesting areas in the... More

A review long overdue.... We had a wonderful camping trip here enjoying the special place John & Harvey have created. You do get an initial "really" when you have barrow your tent etc to your pitch but it's SO worth it not to have cars around. Our 5 year old had a ball, searching for eggs, playing on the beach,... This site is quirky and is best described antique rather than boutique! A very warm welcome followed by a guided tour of the site proved to be an eye opener. With random objects, chickens following you and a stunning location, this site is a must for all travellers, walkers, cyclists, caravan ers and motorhomes. I will not spoil the surprise but get... Stayed in a yurt at Blackhouse camping for 3 nights. We were welcomed by John who provided home made bread, and logs for the woodburner. The facilities were great and we were very sorry when it was time to leave. Others have commented on the distance from car to tent - We didn't find this excessive and not having cars... More

Spent 2 nights at this campsite and like others have pointed out didn't enjoy wheel barrowing all the kit up and down the hill. First pitch we took that could accommodate our tent was too boggy as the site is located in and around a series of rig and furrow. we had to move pitch which was no problem. Yes... More

We arrived on a miserable evening just catching the last of Hurricane Bertha, to be welcomed by John and Harvey and given a quick tour of the ample facilities. The complimentary loaf of bread was greatky appreciated We stayed in yurts with views across the water. The facilities were great, with the fire on we were warm quickly. Showers and... More
