This is a rather tired B&B/ motel rather than a hotel. There are no facilities - bar or restaurant and the whole atmosphere is rather depressing. The rooms are extremely small and poorly furnished with rather dilapidated 1970's furniture of the flat pack variety. The room was so constrained that a sliding door arrangement was utilised to gain access to... more

The owners of Harbour Lights are honest in their blurb about the hotel's history, in saying that it's a 1970's design in need of an update. There are long narrow corridors to the rooms, a huge, soul- less lounge that opens out on to a utilitarian concrete "patio", and a large breakfast room. It's as if the place is waiting... more

My husband and I are just back from celebrating our anniversary in Ullapool. We stayed two nights at HL and were very disappointed - the walls were paper thin and we could hear someone snoring in the next room, so much for a romantic trip away! The sliding doors to the ensuite and the noisy extractor fan announced the fact... more

I would agree with all of the negative comments that have already been posted on this website, but I've also got a couple more to add! The walls of the hotel are paper-thin, which means that you can hear everything that goes on in the adjoining rooms. Fortunately when we stayed the next room was occupied by two men and... more

The website made this place look great but it doesn't live up to expectation. It is indeed in a good location, just on the edge of town and with good views over the water, but that isn't enough to get me to visit again. As soon as you arrive you can see that it is a little run-down. Reception isn't... more

When trying to sum up my stay at a hotel I always ask myself the question 'would I go back' and in the case of the Harbour Lights the answer to that would be a definite NO. I would stay in a small B & B if I were to visit Ullapool again it would be much better value. To... more

The location of the hotel is superb, right on the banks of Loch Broom and it is a pleasure to wake up and look out at the view (if you have a loch view room that is). It is only a few minutes walk into the centre of Ullapool. The breakfast is lovely and the service is great. The only... more

This hotel looks great on the website and whilst it's certainly close to the centre of Ullapool, we were a bit disappointed with our stay. We were warmly greeted on arrival and the staff are very friendly. However, we found ourselves looking for someone - both at the front desk and one evening in the bar (after ringing the bell... more

We were booked to stay for three nights of a 21 day tour of Scotland and Hebrides. This was the worst hotel we stayed in. The situation on Loch Broom is breathtaking and it is a short stroll to town. Everything else about the hotel was very poor. The rooms are tiny; I hit my head on the wall mounted... more

This hotel has a fantastic location. We chose a room with harbour view and the view was fantastic. The people were courteous. However, the room was toooooooooo small and had a closet sized toilet/bath. We were not too upset with the small room but the toilet/bath was so tiny that we chose not to use it more than was absolutely... more
