I booked my mother-in-law into the Caley when she came up to visit us this week. When we arrived to check in we were met by the most indifferent receptionist I have ever come across. She gave us the key and gestured off into the distance. We were left to seek out the room which was hidden away along Stalinist... more

We stayed at the Caledonian Hotel from the 2nd - 4th May. On arrival, the receptionist was friendly and polite. A quick check in and we were given room 108. We were on the ground floor and although we didn't have a view to speak of, you only use your room as a base. Room was clean, quite spacious with... more

The room and en suite were very basic and tired looking, although this was reflected in the price. Breakfast was self service which is quite nice but the fried eggs were hard!! Overall not a great experience and wouldn't recommend. more

Stayed overnight at this hotel with my wife and cousins from Canada. The two rooms we had were clean enough, but the beds in both rooms were in a shocking state. Apart from being tatty, they both suffered from terminal "roll-together". I have contacted the hotel's head office twice, but, as yet, have had no reply. more

From the moment we arrived for a 2 night break this was a nightmare. We checked in late afternoon - to the apparent indifference to the man on reception. Were given a room at the furthest point from reception - wondered if there was hotel transport to take us there!!!! The room was musty, mouldy and the bathroom was disgusting... more

Having read some of the other reviews we were wondering what we'd let ourselves in for but we were pleasantly surprised. The lad on reception was very friendly and helpful - the foyer of the hotel was bright and clean. Our room on the ground floor was small but quite clean, with a comfy bed, spotlessly clean bedding and an... more

Our room was on the first floor overlooking the street with a partial view of the harbour. It was compact but serviceable and not cheap at £80 a night for B&B. Sadly, both twin beds had mattresses which sagged in the middle and creaked and groaned with every movement. The duvets smelled as though they had befriended a previous occupant... more

I stayed at the Caledonian for about a week in May 2007. While Ullapool is a wonderful place, the hotel was disappointing. Prior to my visit, I was actually looking forward to staying at a "historic" hotel in town and found its mild resemblance to Fawlty Towers to be somewhat entertaining. The hotel is not nearly as bad as Fawlty... more

Got a two night deal from easy breaks at this hotel We were only 80 for two people DBB. Lovely drive from Inverenss, The hotel has aged gracefully and is in the process of being updated. The bistro and bar areas have been modernised. The rooms are clean and functional but are not updated yet. The staff were friendly and... more
